Behringer Audio Interface ASIO Setup Guide

2022-03-22

Theme:Software

Affordable audio interfaces have become increasingly common, making it easier to record music using a computer. This process, known as DTM (Desktop Music), can be challenging for beginners, as unfamiliar tasks often lead to stumbling blocks. One possible reason for this is that each manufacturer and model may have different setup procedures.

With BEHRINGER's popular audio interface, known for its excellent value, users on Windows PCs typically use the "ASIO4ALL" driver to manage audio between the DAW (recording software) and the system. However, there are a few key settings you should be aware of to avoid potential issues.

This time, I’d like to introduce some settings to check when you encounter issues like "I’m using my DAW software, but the audio from INST2 isn’t being input!"
For instructions on installing ASIO4ALL, please refer to the article below.

*Note: BEHRINGER audio interfaces, such as the UMC22, are recommended for use with DAW software. Recording software or streaming services that do not support the "ASIO" standard may not receive input from INST2 due to the limitations of the software/service, and this is not covered by support.*

Now, let’s take a look at the audio setup procedure using the BEHRINGER UMC22 as an example!

BEHRINGER / UMC22 Audio Interface

Right-click the speaker icon located in the bottom-right corner of your Windows screen (the area highlighted in red).

Select "Sound" from the menu that appears after right-clicking the speaker icon.

In the red-circled area, make sure to select a device other than the BEHRINGER interface.

*Note: BEHRINGER interfaces are typically listed as "USB Audio CODEC." If you set this as the default device, it may interfere with ASIO4ALL and cause operational issues.

It's best to switch this setting to a different sound device, such as Realtek, to avoid conflicts.*

In the audio interface settings screen within your DAW, set the audio device to ASIO4ALL. Then, select the hardware settings (the area highlighted in red) to open the ASIO4ALL control panel.
*Note: The image shown is from the DAW software ABLETON Live.*

After displaying the ASIO4ALL control panel, click the gear icon in the bottom right (highlighted in red) to show the advanced settings screen. In this screen, the BEHRINGER interface is displayed as "TI PCM2902 USB CODEC."

To activate the device you want ASIO4ALL to recognize as the audio interface, click the enable icon (highlighted in green) to change it to the "on" state.

*Note: Set other audio devices, such as Realtek, to the "off" state (grayed out). If non-BEHRINGER devices are enabled on this screen, they may interfere with the operation.*

After configuring the ASIO4ALL control panel, click on the "Input Config" and "Output Config" buttons (highlighted in red). If the inputs and outputs are set to "on" in the detailed settings for each, you are all set.

*Note: "Input Config" and "Output Config" are specific settings in the DAW software Ableton Live, which determine which input and output channels of the audio interface are enabled. Other DAW software will have similar settings, though they may go by different names. As long as you enable the input/output channels according to the software's procedures, you're good to go. Make sure to also configure the DAW's audio channel input and monitoring settings as needed.*

These settings can be tricky for beginners, but once you get the hang of it, it’s quite simple. Take advantage of BEHRINGER’s affordable audio interface and enjoy making music with DTM!
