It seems that junior high school and high school brass band club practices have started little by little here and there. This time we will introduce some items that are indispensable for practice regardless of the part you play. This is a must-read for string ensemble and orchestra members as well.
■ Tuners & metronomes

Whether you’re in charge of percussion instruments, woodwind or brass instruments, you may also have the opportunity to play timpani and harp, so it would be better to have a tuner instead of just a metronome alone. YAMAHA / TDM series and KORG / TM series are the same in size and function, and SEIKO / STH200 is a little smaller.
Many people use a clip-type microphone to check their own pitch during ensemble practice when they are in charge of wind instruments, and the KORG / CM series and SEIKO / STM series are quite popular. By the way, for practicing at home, the tuner has a built-in microphone.
For more information on the tuners that collaborate with animated characters and so on, see this blog.

■ Music stands
It's a good idea to have your own music stand not only at home, but also for performances at venues where there may be no music stands.
1.Folding
Considering price and portability, the first one is a folding music stand.
Low-priced PLAYTECH / MS05 や
reliable YAMAHA / MSー250ALS
long-selling Wittner / 961D
and so on.
For standard items besides the MS05, which was released last year, there is a product comparison in this blog, so please take a look.

2.Table music stand
You want to focus on light and compact? "Tabletop music stand" is recommended for those you! Don't laugh, just because it has no legs!
Most folding music stands weigh around 1kg, but the tabletop type weighs only 500g, less than half the weight of folding models! Folded up, it is 42cm, so it fits comfortably in your score bag. You might be one of the many students who practice with the score placed on a tablet holder or an open musical instrument case, or putting it on the desk with the score facing straight up making it hard to see….
The K&M / 12400 , which is attractive for its compactness. This is often used by Percussionists on their practice tables.
The colorful K&M / 12450 that can also be used as a book stand or tablet stand
The PLAYTECH / ZMH1 can be used in two ways, as a clamp on a table or on a stand
One example.
It has a sense of stability and the angle can be adjusted.

■ Band file
An excellent item that allows you to write on it with the score inside! It's a standard item now. Remember taking the score from the file during ensemble (using a clothespin to stop it from blowing in the wind ^^;)? Gluing the score to sketchbook (quite heavy)? No more hassles with this!

■ Cloth
It is important to wipe the instrument after use so that it does not get dirty. Each manufacturer sells cloths of various sizes, materials, and with or without abrasives, but the FERNANDES / WCS Polishing Cloth 625S is recommended as a good cloth regardless of the musical instrument. I also find it useful for the maintenance of orchestral instruments.
[Summary]
I have introduced the required starter items for brass band. If you are a student, the school may specify the product number of the item they want you to get, so be sure to check carefully before purchasing. Even if there are a lot of different items on sale and you don't know which one to choose, or if you haven't decided on your part yet, please use this as a starting point for your club activities. Sound House supports everyone in brass band!
