• ザ・ジャムのドラマー、リック・バックラー氏が逝去。

  ザ・ジャムのドラマーとして知られるリック・バックラー氏が逝去したことが、マネジメント会社によって発表されました。享年69歳。
  1972年にポール・ウェラー、ブルース・フォクストンらとともにロンドン郊外の地元パーティーバンドを結成。その後、イギリスで勃発したパンクムーブメントが全英に広がると、バンドは60年代のロックやソウルミュージックを激しいスタイルで演奏するトリオ・バンド「ザ・ジャム」へと発展。1977年にシングル「イン・ザ・シティ」と同タイトルのファーストアルバム『イン・ザ・シティ』をリリース。若者のフラストレーションを代弁するかのような激しく、シャープなドラミングが支えるザ・ジャムの楽曲はイギリス中で絶大な支持を得ることになり、1979年から解散する1982年にかけて、英国の音楽誌NMEの年間アワードでベスト・グループ部門を4年連続で受賞しただけでなく、リック・バックラー自身もドラマーとして個人賞を4年連続で受賞しました。1982年、ザ・ジャムが絶頂期に解散した後は、ネオアコファンにも人気なニュー・ウェーブ・バンド「TIME U.K.」、R&R色の強いグループ「The Highliners」、そしてザ・ジャムのブルース・フォクストンと組んだセルフ・トリビュート・バンド「From the Jam」などでも、一貫して切れのあるドラミングを聴かせていました。
