• Conductor Kazuyoshi Akiyama passed away.

  It was announced that Kazuyoshi Akiyama, a conductor who contributed greatly to the development of the Japanese music world, passed away on January 26. He was 84 years old.
  He studied conducting under Hideo Saito, a leading figure in Western music education and graduated from Toho Gakuen School of Music in 1963. He made his conducting debut with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra in 1964 and served as its Music Director and Permanent Conductor for 40 years. He has conducted major orchestras in Japan and abroad, including the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. He has also devoted himself to the development of regional orchestras, such as the Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra and the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra. He also received many honors, including the Medal with Purple Ribbon, the Order of the Rising Sun, and the designation as a Person of Cultural Merit.

  「ザ・バンド」の鍵盤奏者として知られるガース・ハドソンが2025年1月21日の朝、ニューヨークのウッドストックで死去したと「ザ・バンド」のSNSアカウントで発表されました。享年87歳。
  1961年にロニー・ホーキンスのバックバンド「ホークス」に加入。ロックンロールバンドに彩りを与えるオルガンプレイは、瞬く間にグループのサウンドに劇的な進化をもたらしながら存在感を高めていきました。その後「ホークス」はボブ・ディランの正式なバックバンドに起用され、ディランがフォーク一辺倒からの脱却を図っていきます。エレクトリックサウンドを取り入れた時期のイギリスでのライブにて「ホークス」と共に放った新しいロックンロール・ライブに困惑した観客とディランとのコール＆レスポンスバトルの後に演奏された「ライク・ア・ローリング・ストーン」で聴けるガース・ハドソンのオルガンは、ディラン史のみならず、ロック史進化の瞬間をとらえたドキュメントとしてテレビ番組でも紹介されていました。1968年には「ザ・バンド」と改名して1stアルバム『ミュージック・フロム・ビッグ・ピンク』を発表。ロック・シーンがサイケデリックな音楽で溢れる中、ガース・ハドソン等がルーツとしていたゴスペルを始めとする古き良き時代の音楽をロックサウンドに惜しげなく投入したアーシーなサウンドが、ビートルズやエリック・クラプトン等多くのアーティストに衝撃的な影響を与えました。以後も数々の名アルバムを世に送り出したほか、ウッドストックフェスティバルへの出演を始めとする多くの名演を残し1976年には「ザ・バンド」は惜しまれながら解散。再結成時やソロアルバムでの華やかながら味のあるキーボードやオルガンのプレイを聴かせいました。ロックが若者の反抗のための音楽という常識をうち破る音楽性を提示した、「良心のロック鍵盤プレーヤー」ガース・ハドソン。彼のルーツマナーが大きく貢献した、ザ・バンドの1stアルバムのオープニングナンバーをお贈りして、心よりご冥福をお祈りいたします。
