  ブリティッシュ・ブルース界のゴッドファーザー的存在でもあり、1960年代に台頭したブルースロック・シーンを牽引する作品を残してきたジョン・メイオールが死去したと、公式のSNSアカウントで発表されました。享年90歳。1962年、自身のバンドジョン・メイオール＆ザ・ブルースブレイカーズを結成。バンドにはヤードバーズを脱退したエリック・クラプトンも加入し、1966年にはブルース・ロックの金字塔的とも言われるアルバム『ジョン・メイオール&ザ・ブルースブレイカーズ・ウィズ・エリック・クラプトン（Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton）』を発表。バンドは、後にフリートウッド・マックに加入する前のピーター・グリーン、ミック・フリートウッドとジョン・マクヴィー、後にローリング・ストーンズで大活躍するギタリストのミック・テイラー、マザーズ・オブ・インヴェンションやデビッド・ボウイのバンドでもアグレッシブなプレイを聴かせる名ドラマーであるエインズレー・ダンバーなど、後にロック界を代表する名プレーヤーを多く輩出した事もあり「ジョン・メイオール・ブルース学校」とも言われており、1970年代のロックシーンにも多大な影響を残してきました。ジョン・メイオール&ザ・ブルースブレイカーズ解散後もアルバム制作やライブ活動を勢力的に行っており、中でもトッド・ラングレンはじめ多くの名アーティストが参加した2019年のアルバム『ノーバディ・トールド・ミー(Nobody
  Told Me)』では、80歳を超えた年齢とは思えない程、強力でファンキーなブルース・ロック・ナンバーを聴かせていました。
  生涯一ブルースに人生を捧げた偉大なるジョン・メイオールの素晴らしいライブパフォーマンスの映像をお贈りして、心よりご冥福をお祈り申し上げます。
