With the addition of the new PVC144 laminated model to the PLAYTECH cellos series, the number of available types has gradually increased. However, honestly, I think it’s hard to tell what the actual differences are compared to the existing models up to now. So, once again, I compared what differences each model has and put them together. This time, it’s that kind of introductory blog.

New Cello PVC144 Series
The PLAYTECH PVC144 newly added to the lineup comes in the following two models.
Now, I will compare the specifications of each cello one by one.
PLAYTECH / PVC144BK Cello Black 4/4
Features:
This is the first laminated model among PLAYTECH cellos. It is an entry-level model that emphasizes good quality for a lower price. It has a glossy finish with a black color. The striking point is the dazzling glossy black color. Accessories such as a bow and rosin are also included, so beginners can feel at ease. This set is recommended for those who are about to start playing the cello.
Impressions after playing:
Since the body is painted black, I was worried about the volume, but I was able to play it without any particular difference from a normal acoustic cello. It has a gentle tone, and the volume is more than sufficient. I was also able to experience the characteristic direct “buzzing” vibration from the cello body.
PLAYTECH / PVC144BR Cello Brown 4/4
Features:
Like the PVC144BK, this is also a laminated model. It is recommended as an entry-level cello, and the color is a calm, non-glossy light brown. I’ve never played the cello at all, but I just want to start anyway…! This is a cello set I would recommend to people like that. The bridge is shipped secured in an upright position, so you can start playing as soon as you take it out of the box after it arrives.
Impressions after playing:
I tried playing this one as well, and I could feel that it has sufficient volume and resonance. I think that it has enough potential for beginner practice. When comparing the sound with the black model, I felt that this one has slightly more depth to the sound. “Cellos are expensive and not easy to start…”—this is a cello set I would recommend to people who feel this way.
PLAYTECH / PVC244 Cello 4/4
Features:
A full-fledged cello set with solid wood construction. It has a glossy red finish with an ebony fingerboard and pegs. Bow, rosin, case, tuner, and endpin stopper are included. Both the specifications and the contents of the set leave nothing to be desired for beginners, and this cello set is recommended for those who want even slightly better tone quality.
Impressions after playing:
I thought that the richness of the sound and the inherent potential of the instrument itself are one level above the PVC144. The more you play it, the better it resonates. I think it’s a cello that gives you that kind of impression. Also, depending on the individual instrument, this one had a very visible wood grain, and since the pegs and fingerboard are made of ebony, I felt a sense of luxury that comes with a cello as an instrument.
For those who are concerned about the sound being able to reach to the back of a concert venue, I recommend an electric cello, the PEC100BR!
PLAYTECH / PEC100BR Electric Cello 4/4 Brown
In addition to acoustic cellos, our company also carries electric cellos! They are recommended for people whose living environment doesn’t allow them to make loud sounds, such as for nighttime practice using headphones. It is also possible to connect to an amplifier and enjoy shaping your sound.
To Summarize
- Both the PVC144BK and PVC144BR are cello sets for beginners. The main differences are the color and tone. The black model has a delicate and gentle tone, while the brown model offers a deeper, more substantial sound.
However, there isn’t a huge difference in tone, so it’s perfectly fine to choose based on a model on your preferred color. - For those aiming for a higher-level sound or who want a more comprehensive set, I recommend the PVC244! The quality, including the body and various parts, makes it a suitable choice as an entry-level cello.
PLAYTECH Cello Comparison Table
I’ve made a comparison table for each PLAYTECH cello, including existing models! I hope this article will be useful for you in choosing a cello.
How was it? This time, I introduced several PLAYTECH cellos in a comparative format. Why not take this opportunity to start playing the cello?
