MINA’s Signature Bass Dullahan’s Entry Model has Come Out from Seed!

Hi everyone! This time, I’m even more excited than my usual blogs.That’s because… the entry model of my favorite bassist Mina's signature bass has been released from Sago NMG Co., Ltd.'s student brand Seed! Woo-hoo!

I check Mina’s social media on a daily basis and watching Youtube videos from Sago, the workshop that made her signature bass, while having breakfast is my morning routine. So when I saw the post about Dullahan’s entry model, I was confused. Since I started working, I’ve been getting carried away and spending lots of my salary on my own work place. Even though I started playing the bass because of Mina, I shouldn’t buy another gear, right? Don’t I have enough?

The answer is for sure; “Good by my dear old violin bass. Hello Dullahhan!”
Now that I made up my mind, let’s take a look at Mina and Dullahan :)

Who is Mina?

A female bassist who has attracted worldwide attention thanks to her videos of herself playing the bass on social media.
She has more than 2.8 million followers in total, and was chosen as the Japanese representative bassist for a special session led by Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park! Other than Mike Shinoda, she has also collaborated with many famous artists both in Japan and abroad. When the bassist she admires, Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers came to Japan on tour, she was handed a set list during a live performance, which became a hot topic.
In December 2024, it was announced that she had joined the girl band East of Eden as their bassist, and she is a young bassist who is attracting a lot of attention right now!

Mina is a bassist who is attracting attention in Japan and around the world, but she is also a multi-talented person who can not only play the bass, but also write lyrics and compose songs and sing! She has also uploaded a video of her playing the bass for the song “Tenjo Tenge Yuiga Dokuson”, which she wrote the lyrics and composed and also sang.

... She's so good, so cute, and she can write and sing songs too. Isn't that great? She has a lovely smile too;) She has covered many other famous songs in her own way.

The green bass that Mina plays is Sago's Dullahan! She probably uses fuzz and other effects sometimes, but she has said that she uploads videos with the sound as it is, without using a compression pedal, so I think it's probably close to the sound of Sago's Dullahan as it is.

Dullahan is a signature model that Mina has been using since she was in high school, and the body color, paint, wood, etc. were all decided after Sago and Mina talking all through. This distinctive bass is now an icon of her!

And this time, Dullahan has been released from the Seed brand with the hope of delivering her model to as many people as possible, and of becoming the first bass for those who are just starting out with musical instruments.
I personally went to Mina's events, and saw a lot of people who started playing the bass because of her. I'm one of them, so I can't stop getting excited! As of January 2025, the price of the Seed Dullahan is about one sixth of the Sago model, so it's very affordable. I'm so moved...!
Considering that the Sago model is made by craftsmen who carefully make each one by one, it is totally worth the price, but the Seed model follows the original while keeping the price down. It's too good that I’m running out of words…!

Materials

The combination of alder body, maple neck and maple fingerboard is a classic combination.
The fingerboard reproduces Mina's own insistence on “no dot position”.
There are small position marks on the sides, so there's no problem with playability! Awesome!!

Controls

The layout is passive, with 1Vol+Balancer+1Tone+Series/parallel SW.
It's a simple layout with a PJ specification, but it's easy to use and you can enjoy the sound of the series-parallel switch. If you switch from series to parallel, roughly speaking, “the sound gets louder and comes forward”.
The original has a passive/active switch rather than a series-parallel switch, but in an interview a few years ago, Mina said that she basically uses the passive switch, and only uses the active switch when she wants to bring the sound forward in a solo performance, so I think you can use the series-parallel switch in a similar way to Mina. FYI, in the video released on December 27th 2024, MINA said that the battery for the active switch had run out and that she was using the mute switch. In other words, you can get close to your beloved Mina even if you only use the passive pickups! Yay!

Design

The most important thing is the design.
The combination of the deep green and gold parts that could be called Mina's image color has been adopted, and the original paint on the body that Mina drew when she was in high school has also been faithfully reproduced. The S logo and one-point design engraved on the pickguard are also cute!
The appearance has been reproduced with a high level of quality so that it is exactly the same as the original.

It's planned to be available in April, and pre-orders have already started, so if you're interested, please check out the product page! Seed / Dullahan MINA signature model

At the NAMM SHOW held in the US at the end of January, a live event was also held at the Sago booth as the first event to commemorate the release of the new model. I was there to see it for myself, so I'd like to write an after-event report later.
