I asked a Sago staff member about their custom guitar/bass brand!

Have you heard of the guitar/bass manufacturer Sago? If you are a guitarist or bassist, you may know them or at least heard of them.
Sago New Material Guitars is a manufacturer that mainly produces custom electric guitars and basses. They are constantly and actively putting out models with new materials and ideas. They accept custom orders for almost anything you can dream of, and so many musicians such as Spitz, Unison Square Garden, and the pillows are loyal fans to the Sago brand. Sago not only carries guitars and basses, but they also carry and manufacture a wide variety of pickups and other accessories, and many of them are available at Sound House.

Today I spoke with Kubocchi-san who often appears on the official Sago YouTube channel and I asked about Sago New Material Guitars!

Y：Kubocchi-san, thank you for joining me today!

K：You, too!

Y：Now, I’m going to ask about Sago New Material Guitars. I’ve heard Sago produces some different brands. Can you tell us what brands are there?

K：We carry musical instruments from the brands Sago, Stem, Seed, and an original pickup brand called L(x). We also sell good quality guitar merchandise and a whole range of novelty music gifts items made from guitar wood scraps by Reodell, and useful musical instrument accessories for maintenance and for the stage from the brand S_IX. We have 6 brands in total!

Y：Thank you! These are the 6 brands! Please tell me about the different characteristics of the three musical instrument brands.

K：Sago is our top-tier brand. The whole process is done in our workshop almost all by hand. The instruments are mainly full custom or semi-custom. Each luthier in our company builds an entire guitar starting from a single block of wood to painting and assembly, so we can take orders with special requests. If you have an ideal guitar that you’ve been dreaming about, now you can make it a reality with Sago!

Classic Style J4 Custom

〇 Seed is a lower cost brand that mass-produces Sago artist models. We mass-produce guitars in overseas factories and import them so that we can sell our guitars to consumers at reduced prices. You can get a signature model at an affordable price. We recommend Seed as a great brand for your first instrument if you’re looking for a more affordable artist signature model.

Kotetsu Black

〇 Stem is between Seed and Sago in terms of price. The brand concept is “a musical instrument that will bring you to the next level”. You may consider upgrading to a better instrument after using a Seed or a beginner kit, but you may also hesitate to buy an expensive custom-made instrument. If that’s the case, then Stem would be the best choice.
We can send the specs of the body and neck to be finished in other workshops within Japan. We only paint and assemble the guitars in our workshop. We can’t take requests to alter controls, pickups, and fixed specifications, but you can choose the body color and the pickguard, so you can make your own instrument. All three brands are now available at Sound House!!

Y：Thank you! These are options that can cover any wish the customers may have. I’m a beginner, so I think a Seed would be perfect for me, but a Stem is also attractive because I can choose the body color and the pickguard! Before we finish, can I ask you about the accessory lineups?

K：All three of our accessory brands are also available at Sound House!
Above all, the Finger Step by S_IX seems to be one of our best-selling items at Sound House. The Finger Step is an add-on accessory for the bass. I think there are quite a lot of people who are troubled with fingers falling deep between the strings and the body when slapping. One way to solve this worry is to use a thick pickguard, but it’s quite an extensive repair and the costs will be expensive. So, just attach a Finger Step onto your bass to easily and inexpensively reduce the gap between the strings and the body. We highly recommend the Finger Step!
