On Jan. 20th, Yamaha released a new series of violins called the Braviol V5SCC. Including this product, did you know that Yamaha Braviol violins are available in different models and have different specifications for each one? I myself did not know much about them, so I decided to take this opportunity to look them up. This blog is an introduction of such a product.
About the YAMAHA Braviol Series
As of January 2025, the following five series of Braviol violins are now available.
- YAMAHA / Braviol VIOLIN SET V5SCC 4/4
- YAMAHA / Braviol VIOLIN SET V7SG 4/4
- YAMAHA / Braviol VIOLIN SET V10SG 4/4
- YAMAHA / Braviol VIOLIN SET V20SG 4/4
- YAMAHA / Braviol VIOLIN SET V25SGA 4/4
In addition to sets, YAMAHA violins are also sold individually.
I have compiled a list of specifications based on YAMAHA's official website to find out the differences between these models.
YAMAHA / Braviol VIOLIN V5SCC
This model was previously sold only in fractional sizes as the “V5SC”, but has been redesigned into the “V5SCC” with the renewal of the violin case. It is the most affordable of the Braviol series, and finally an adult size, 4/4, has now been added. Equipped with a Whitner tailpiece and a built-in adjuster, this model is great for students and children. This violin set is designed for those who are just starting out or for beginners and students.
There are seven sizes: 4/4 3/4 1/2 1/4 1/8 1/10 1/16.
YAMAHA / Braviol VIOLIN V7SG
This violin is described on its official page as “an authentic hand-crafted violin made of natural wood,” and is a higher-end model than the V5SCC I mentioned above. Another major difference is the violin case: although it is only for adults in 4/4, it is not a compact shaped triangular case like the V5SCC, but a square oblong case that is both functional and luxurious.
However, like the V5SCC, this model is also described as being for students and children, so this violin is recommended for those who attend music classes.
There are five sizes available: 4/4 3/4 1/2 1/4 1/8.
YAMAHA / Braviol VIOLIN V10SG
According to the official website, this violin has “a lustrous appearance with oil varnish and shading for visual beauty”. The body of expensive violins on the market have changed over the years, but this model has a shaded appearance that makes it look and feel luxurious. Also, the E string on the bridge comes with a sleeve, the equipped strings are dominant, and the attention to detail makes this violin to be highly recommended.
Only available in size 4/4 for adults.
YAMAHA / Braviol VIOLIN V20SG
The official description of this violin reads, “Based on the works of Garneri del Gesu, this violin has achieved a rich and bright sound with delicate responsiveness to various musical expressions”. One major difference compared to other models is the use of boxwood for the string spool, tailpiece, chinrest, etc., which gives it a more luxurious appearance.
YAMAHA / Braviol V25GA VIOLIN
This is the first violin produced by YAMAHA with an antique finish, and it’s the highest grade violin in the Braviol series. The color and shape of the violin have changed over the years. It is described as “a perfect reproduction of the matured style of an old violin, which is called a masterpiece.” This violin is a detailed reproduction of the varnish changes and uneven coloring caused by contact with the fingers and chin, contact between the bow and the instrument, and even the small scratches that occur when the instrument is placed on the floor.
What did you think? The results of my research showed that YAMAHA's attention to detail in each model is even greater than I had expected. If YAMAHA releases any new products in the future, I would like to write another blog introducing and comparing them!
