Hello everyone, I’m Nishino from the Drum Team.
I can hardly believe it’s been 20 years since I first picked up the drums...
Looking back on my long drumming journey, I’ve used a variety of drum accessories.
Among the pile of gear I’ve tried and set aside, there are a few items that I still find incredibly practical and well-suited to my needs.
Today, I’d like to introduce you to the drum accessories I currently use. Feel free to compare them with your own favorites!
Pearl / K-029
This is a tuning key with a handle shaped like a ratchet.
Since all my favorite snare drums are tuned to 10 tension, I need something that can quickly loosen the heads during head changes!
Also, it’s great because it’s easy to see how much I’ve turned when tuning.
Regular tuning keys have a symmetrical shape, so sometimes you unconsciously wonder, “Did I turn it half or full rotation?” If you’ve ever had that experience, this is a must-buy!!
Remo / RO14
This is Remo’s ring mute. I use the 14-inch size for my snare drum. As shown in the picture below, there are many sizes available, so you can choose according to your needs.

I’ve been using this one for 15 years now!! The logo hasn’t worn off, it hasn’t bent, and with careful handling, it’s a product that can really last long!
What I like most is that the mute sits evenly around the outer edge of the snare drum. The resonance left after muting is pleasant, and simply changing the ring allows you to drastically alter the sound for different songs, which I think is unique to ring mutes.
Lerni / H-135KW
For me, this is the ultimate No.1 drumstick. Finding the drumstick that suits you best is like reaching the drummer’s holy grail, and for me, it was this product.
With its 7A size, small rounded wooden tip, and very thin coating, it feels like it sticks well to my small hands with dry skin! While the balance of drumsticks is important, this type, which leans toward the grip side, is perfect for those who like it. It’s a product that can’t be replaced easily, so I want to increase its users even if it’s just one person!!
Puresound / P-1320
It’s rare for me to recommend a snare wire, but I had to include this one in the lineup!
I use it for my 13-inch birch snare drum, and it has a vintage feel that matches very well.
If you’re looking for a 13-inch snare drum wire, I highly recommend considering this one.
Tama / BSQ5S
The last item is the beater I use for home practice. The felt part is made of sponge, so it has a high degree of muting, which is very useful for practicing in apartments.
Also, it’s a standard shaft size, so I use it not only with Tama’s kick pedal but also with Pearl’s and Gibraltar’s.
Since the beater’s width is narrow, I recommend it especially to those who want to practice twin pedals quietly by purchasing two.

Extra
As a bonus, I’d like to introduce some discontinued products that I still use, along with alternative recommendations for your reference.
BOSS / DB-60 Dr. Beat

First up is the BOSS DB-60. Not only can you change the sound per beat, but the DB-60 also offers the note mixing function to set your own rhythm patterns, in addition to tuner and timer functions.
I preset the tempo for the order of songs in live performances and use it to switch between songs, so even if I have to play many songs, I can start playing according to the tempo.
While the DB-60 is very functional, the DB-90 is even more high-end. It also offers the note mixing function to set original rhythm patterns, so you can switch smoothly using a footswitch. It’s also packed with rhythm coach functions, making it highly recommended for individual practice.
Leather Stick Case

This is a Pearl stick case that can no longer be obtained because it was discontinued.
Leather cases are very durable, so they can be used for a long time, and they look more flavorful as they age over time! This case is probably over 30 years old, but it can still be used a lot without feeling excessive deterioration.
I have several stick case recommendations, so let me introduce them to you!
This is an LM Products full-leather drumstick bag. A reissue model that incorporates a design released in 1985, it uses high-quality thick suede leather, making it durable and long-lasting. It also includes leather laces for attaching to the floor tom and outer pockets, making it a highly functional product.
Even adults can have a cool and fashionable design, so I think you can use it for a long time.
There are also durable products other than leather products.
This is a Gruv Gear stick case made of carbon. It’s lightweight, durable, and highly recommended because it’s easy to use! The design is very smart and cool, and the shoulder belt is quite sturdy, so it’s reassuring!
This is a Promark stick case that uses synthetic leather in some parts. It’s a stylish design that uses synthetic leather inside the case as well.
It has a large pocket and inner pocket and allows you to attach it to the floor tom, making it particularly recommended.
How was it? I think drummers have their own favorite items.
I want to continue using practical and cherished items for a lifetime!
Why don’t you take this opportunity to find your favorite item?
