Sound House has recently started carrying a new brand of woodwind instrument accessories called Key Leaves. Founded by professional saxophonist Rulon Brown, Key Leaves continuously releases innovative products from the player’s point of view!
Today, I want to introduce the Spit Sponge from Key Leaves!
What is Spit Sponge?
Spit Sponge is a care product for removing sticky residue from pads and cleaning tone holes on woodwind instruments such as flutes, clarinets, and saxophones.
Similar products include the Cleaning Paper and Pad Dryer, which are also available at Sound House:
Two Variants Available
The Spit Sponge comes in the following two variants:
① For oboe, flute, clarinet, fagot, and soprano saxophone:
Key Leaves / SPTWW Spit Sponge Pad Dryer
② For saxophone:
Key Leaves / SPTSAX Spit Sponge Pad Dryer
Amazing Features of Spit Sponge!
① Washable!
Unlike disposable cleaning papers, the Spit Sponge can be washed and reused!
Its edges are laser-treated to prevent fraying, ensuring high durability.
② Dual-Texture Pad
The pad features a highly absorbent material on the pad side and a micro-texture material on the tone hole side for dirt removal. This design helps prevent pad wear and noise.
This feature also addresses pad stickiness.

③ User-Friendly Shape
The ends of the Spit Sponge are shaped differently, allowing you to use it according to the size of the pad and the arrangement of the keys.
It works great on sticky high keys and G# keys like this!

Intentionally Made the Pads Sticky to Test
To test the high absorbency of the Spit Sponge, I conducted an experiment.
I sprayed water on a pad, placed the Spit Sponge on it, and then used a tissue to see how much moisture remained.
This is a pad...

I sprayed water on it

and placed the Spit Sponge

Result!

The tissue paper did not absorb any moisture.
Although the pad felt slightly moist, the surface water droplets were thoroughly absorbed.

*The red circle indicates where the pad was.
I introduced the Spit Sponge from Key Leaves.
Definitely give it a try! (^-^)
