When considering a digital piano, it is important to check the keyboard material, specifications and touch. However, many people may not be able to tell the difference just by looking at the specifications. In this article, I would like to explain more about the keyboards used in Yamaha digital pianos.
There are four major keyboard types for Yamaha electronic pianos sold at Sound House. They are the Grade Hammer Standard (GHS) keyboard, the Natural Wood-X (NWX) keyboard, the Balanced Hammer Standard (BHS) keyboard, and the Wooden Grade Hammer (NW-GH3) keyboard. Let's take a closer look at each of them./p>
I. Graded Hammer Standard (GHS) Keyboard

The weight of the keys varies according to the note range so that the keys are heavier in the lower register and lighter in the higher register, providing a natural touch. In addition, the black keys have a matte finish, so you can enjoy authentic piano playing that comes close to the touch of an acoustic piano. The lightweight resin construction makes this keyboard very attractive.

II. Natural Wood-X (NWX) Keyboard

The white keys are made of solid wood cut from a single piece of wood, just like a live piano. This provides a rich keyboard feel similar to that of a grand piano. The keyboard is equipped with Yamaha's unique damper sensor built into each key. The damper sensor enables fast, continuous hitting of the same note without losing notes. The keyboard also reproduces the unique tugging sensation of a grand piano that is felt when the keys are pressed with a weak force, as the keys drop down.

III. Balanced Hammer Action (BHS) Keyboard

The BHS keyboard is a piano-touch keyboard with weighted keys at the same weight in all registers. This provides a smooth touch that responds to a wide variety of playing styles, from electric piano to acoustic piano, organ, and synthesizer sound sources. The keyboard was also manufactured with special attention to lightness that contributes to a lightweight body that is convenient for carrying around.

IV. Wooden Grade Hammer (NW-GH3) Keyboard

The wooden keyboard is made of solid wood cut from a single piece of wood like a grand piano in order to create a weight and touch that feels natural to a pianist. The keyboard reproduces the same hammer action mechanism as the GHS keyboard, which is heavier in the lower register and lighter in the upper register. Both the white and black keys are equipped with very small holes on the surface, providing just the right amount of grip and stability when playing. Yamaha's unique damper sensor is mounted on each key, which enables fast, continuous hammering of the same note without losing notes.
