[Headphones] How to Remove the Earpads

If you wear your headphones every day, they gradually become worn out and start to have a peculiar smell. Sweat, sebum, and other substances from the ears gradually accumulate and cause damage and odor.
In such cases, it's time to replace them with clean earpads to refresh your mind.

I'm sure you're thinking,
“I've never taken the earpads off these headphones before!”
“If I pull them off, then I won’t be able to replace them, right?.”
“Ugh...Oh that..”
I actually tried once where I regretted it.

So, here it is.
There are different ways to remove earpads depending on each brand.
This time, I'm here to hear you say, “Woah!”
I would like to share with you some of the things I've seen around me, and I would like to share them with you.

This time, I tested three models of headphones that I have on me.

■ 1st model : beyerdynamic / DT990PRO

Sound House's standard bestseller with amazing quality for its price in terms of both fit and sound quality. Especially when it comes to delicacy and sound resolution, I feel that these are the best in the same price range. If in doubt, buy these (this is just my personal opinion, so please don't be put off by it). The earpads are a gray color with a silver sheen. The fabric is velour with a smooth texture, giving them a luxurious look.

Now, let's start removing the earpads.

First, the exterior looks like this.

Now, remove them.
As you can see, the DT990PRO is a system that can be removed by pulling.
The trick is to slide them off slowly in the direction of the arrow in the image.

Next is a close-up of the earpads.
As you can see in the image, there are multiple holes on the back of the earpads that allow air to escape like a mesh structure.
By allowing air to escape from the earpads when worn, it seems to have the effect of making the earpads adhere more closely to the wearer and preventing steaminess when worn for long periods of time.

This is an image of the housing side.
Since the earpads are hooked and secured, the circumference of the housing has a large area.

■ 2nd model : AKG / K702

When it comes to AKG, the K701 is a classic.
It is a well-known model that many fans recognize for its excellent performance. The open-type headphones have a moderate sense of disconnection, which makes the sound clearer, and the comfortable fit of the earpads that wrap around the ears makes listening for long periods of time less painful. It's like the mother of the headphone world saying, “I'm home, I'm home, I'm home,” and wanting to come back again even after being away.
The “K702” used this time is a sister relation of the K701, with the differences being the “navy color” and the use of a detachable cable.
Personally, I prefer the navy color, which does not show sunburns or scratches, and the detachable cable, which is more compact.

And now, remove it.
As you can see in the picture, it is a rotating type.
The trick is to rotate the earpiece while pressing lightly with the palm of your hand on the part of the earpiece that touches the ear and you can feel okay about removing it.

You can see what looks like claws at the four corners.

By the way, the K701, the K712PRO, and the K612PRO have the same structure.
You can't see it from the back side, but the surface (the surface where the ear touches) actually has a height difference.

I personally think it depends on your preference, but I was told that if you choose the thicker side (with higher peaks) for the surface that touches the back of the ear and the thinner side for the other side, you will get a proper fit.

These monitor headphones are mainly used for business purposes.
The side pressure is excellent and just right. So, they are not hard to wear even when monitoring for long hours.
Above all, they are “tough guys”.
Since it can be folded, it can be used in a space-saving manner, making it useful for business use.

Here's a look at the exterior. The word “Professional” stands out.

It is the same as the DT990PRO, but you slide it off.

Yes, it's a snap.

The earpads are very orthodox.

The housing is also, you guessed it, orthodox.

I removed the earpads from several brands of headphones this time,

“Pull first, and if it looks like it's going to be a problem, turn it!”
