An electric guitar and an amplifier can be said to be a set of instruments in the same way that a guitarist and a distortion effect cannot be separated.
Since distortion effect pedals are said to be something that guitarists are in eternal pursuit of, there are tons of them on the market.
Recently, due to the shortage of semiconductors and the scarcity of other various parts, the prices of effects pedals have skyrocketed.
However, despite these circumstances, Warm Audio is reproducing classic devices at a low cost under their mantra of providing good products at good prices.

This time, I tried out the ODD Box v1 by Warm Audio.
As you can tell from its looks, this pedal pays homage to the famous overdrive pedal.
The ODD Box v1 has the usual knobs (Volume, Tone, and Drive) and a toggle switch to switch between two modes (UK and US). The pedal is powered by 9VDC.

In order to try out this ODD Box v1, I used an S-style and an ES-335 guitar with a clean channel on the Mesa Boogie Express amp, and a Shure SM57 mic to record on DAW software.

Trying out the ODD Box v1 with an S-style guitar
Here, I set the mode to UK on the ODD.
I checked the sound with low gain.
The sound is more open and energetic. It could express the nuances of picking and gave a bright sharpness when I strummed with a mute.
I personally like this sound very much.
Next, I checked the sound at full gain, no, a little less than full gain with a little bit of Japanese modesty.
It does not distort the sound as much as the recent high-gain pedals, but it has enough distortion to play up to hard rock since it produces a crunchy sound with a muted bridge. Every note can be heard clearly, so tension chords are not ruined.
The combination with humbuckers is also great.
Now changing to an ES-355 guitar
This time, I set the mode to US on the ODD.
I checked the sound again from low gain first.
Compared to the UK mode, the sound is more subdued, natural, and warm.
Of course, the fact that I changed the guitar already affects the sound, but switching between UK and US modes also makes a big difference in designing the sound for the ODD.
The US mode has an old sound that seems like it will be suitable for blues.
Next, I turned up the gain to about half and checked the sound. The sound felt juicy, distorted, but warm at the same time. Even with complex tension chords, its crispness wasn’t lost.
The ODD felt very pleasant to play.
Conclusion
I think that the ODD Box v1 is a good quality overdrive pedal that can create a musical sound at any setting from low to high gain. I thought that it was possible to create the sound effortlessly by selecting a mode that can be a good match with my guitar and amp.
Considering the quality of this pedal, the price is just excellent. The ODD Box v1 is a must-have choice as a first pedal for beginners as well as an extra pedal for intermediate and advanced players.
