Various Stages at Fuji Rock Festival

2023-06-22

Theme:Events & Concerts

With the Fuji Rock Festival coming up next month, the official announcement about the stages and facilities has been made!
Based on that, I want to share my comments on each stage.
I hope this helps those attending for the first time this year.

■ GREEN STAGE

Capacity: About 40,000 people

This is the main stage of the Fuji Rock Festival! It’s huge. Many big names have given legendary performances here and the stories are countless. There are giant screens for flashy performances and close-ups of your favorite artists, so it’s also nice to watch them leisurely from a distance. The mosh pit in front of the stage is enclosed by barriers, so you can’t get in directly from the front. There are entrances on the sides, so be sure to check them out.

■ WHITE STAGE

Capacity: About 15,000 people

First of all, the sound at White Stage is excellent. It’s incredibly pleasant. This stage has also witnessed many legendary performances. There can be entrance restrictions when a popular artist is performing, so be careful with your timing. Even if the entrance area is crowded, if you push forward, it might be less crowded near the stage (Just a tip: the area to the right of the PA table offers a good view). It takes about 15 minutes to walk from the Green Stage to the White Stage.

■ RED MARQUEE

Capacity: About 5,000 people

This is the only stage with a roof. The performers range from trending newcomers to veterans. When popular newcomers perform, entrance restrictions are common. The roof and stage were raised a few years ago, making it much easier to see. From midnight to morning, it turns into a large venue for performances and DJs. It takes about 5 minutes to walk from the Green Stage to the Red Marquee. Be careful, as it gets insanely crowded when it suddenly rains.

■ FIELD OF HEAVEN

Capacity: About 5,000 people

This stage is surrounded by trees and has a very relaxed atmosphere. It features a wide variety of performers, from famous bands to world music. When night falls, the mirror ball adds a mysterious vibe. It’s pleasant both day and night. They use biodiesel power for the stage, aiming to reduce CO2 emissions. It takes about 10 minutes to walk from the White Stage to the Field of Heaven.

■ Gypsy Avalon

Capacity: About 1,000 people

This stage also uses biodiesel, solar power, and other renewable energy sources to reduce CO2 emissions. The stage decorations have a handmade feel, and notable people often give talks here. The slope facing the stage makes it quite easy to see. The stage and audience create an intimate atmosphere.

■ Naeba Shokudo

It used to be part of the Naeba Shokudo, known for its festival food ‘Tororo Rice’ and delicious local sake. Now it’s relocated just outside and is a bit bigger. It used to be so close to the stage that it sometimes felt like the venue would collapse from the intense performances. It’s sturdier now, which is good. Occasionally, big names perform here, surprising everyone.

■ GAN-BAN SQUARE

Located in one corner of the large eating area Oasis, it hosts autograph sessions and mini-live shows during the day and DJ parties at night. Sometimes famous DJs play here, which is surprising.

■ PYRAMID GARDEN

This stage is located within the tour bus-only campsite Pyramid Garden, produced by Candle JUNE. The space is filled with candles, creating a soothing atmosphere. There are yoga sessions in the morning, workshops for children during the day, and ambient and acoustic performances at night amidst numerous candles. Unexpected artist appearances and surprises are part of the charm (I haven’t been there yet, but I plan to go this year). Candle JUNE’s decorations have been around for a long time and are popular photo spots every year.

■ CRYSTAL PALACE TENT

Returning in 2023 after four years! Located in the free area, the Palace of Wonder, this is said to be the most beautiful traveling tent in the world. It has a bar and stage inside, with a unique space featuring a wooden dance floor. Selected DJs and bands from Japan and abroad perform here. Famous musicians who come to the Fuji Rock Festival often drop by, so you’re lucky if you meet one.

■ ROOKIE A GO-GO

This is a stage for newcomers, located in one corner of the Palace of Wonder. Performers who have passed the audition give passionate performances, dreaming of a bright future. Good luck to them!

■ DAY DREAMING

ドLocated at the end of the Dragondola ride, this area is cool and extremely pleasant. Famous DJs often perform here. It’s pure happiness to sway to the music while sipping a drink. *The Dragondola ride is paid.

In the past, there were these stages...

■ Café de Paris

Inspired by the historical cabaret Moulin Rouge in Paris, this was a somewhat mysterious space with a diverse range of unique acts. There were stunning pole dancer performances next to the stage, and sometimes audience members would drink while being held by dancers. It hasn’t been around since 2019 due to the dreaded COVID-19... We hope for its return.

■ Mokudo-Tei

A lovely wooden path in the Naeba forest, known as the Boardwalk, with a small stage surrounded by trees. You could sit on logs and watch, soaking in the peaceful atmosphere.

■ ORANGE CAFÉ

This used to be a stage area. Now it’s a covered eating and resting area. There is a small stage next to it, where veteran musicians, tribute bands, and novelty bands perform. During non-performance times, there was an open mic stage called Busker Stop where anyone could participate.

It’s amazing to have so many stages and enjoy wherever you go!
That’s all!

ITO
