DRAWMER / DL441

A 4-channel compressor equipped with four of DRAWMER's innovative auto-compressors. The automatically controlled attack/release times ensure simple and precise operation.

Features

* 4-channel design with stereo linking capabilities between channels 1-2 and 3-4

* Knee compression has a switch for soft and hard modes, allowing ratio control in both modes

* Attack and release times are automatically set

* Peak limiter setting is possible with zero response time/zero overshoot circuit similar to the DL241 (0dB to +16dB)

* All channels are equipped with gain reduction (8-dot LED) and an LED bar graph (5-dot LED) to display the output level

* Output level is adjustable from -20 to +20dB

* Bypass allows signal transmission even when the power is off by directly connecting the input and output terminals

* Input/output level switch (+4dB/-10dB) buttons are located on the rear panel, and XLR type input/output terminals are used

Functions

Compressor:

The compressor section can be switched between HARD and SOFT knee compression. In SOFT mode, the ratio gradually increases over a 10dB input level range until the ratio set on the front panel is reached, resulting in a more natural compression sound. This is particularly useful in many broadcast applications. HARD knee compression can also be used as a creative effect, especially for processing drums and guitar sounds, or for giving rock vocals a ""compressed sound.""

Auto Attack & Release:

By generating a response that always follows the signal's dynamics, it eliminates the need for manual adjustment. This allows the DL441 to maintain crisp transients without generating excessive peaks. The smooth and lively recovery from compression minimizes side effects such as ""pumping"" and ""breathing."" This feature is particularly effective when the program being processed lacks predictable and consistent dynamics, such as in a complete mix, vocals, or ""slap-and-pull"" bass guitar.

Peak Level Limiter:

The ""Zero Response Time"" and ""Zero Overshoot"" circuits provide absolute limiting to the peak level of the output signal, adjustable from 0dB to +16dB above the system level. The ""Zero Response Time"" transparent limiter means the DL441 is completely protected even from the fastest and shortest signal overloads, making it ideal for speaker system protection in SR applications. This sophisticated circuitry also prevents unpleasant distortion when used in digital mastering.

Metering:

A comprehensive bar graph display provides at-a-glance visibility of gain reduction and input/output signal levels. When a channel is BYPASS, the output bar graph displays the input signal level. Other LEDs indicate the status of hard/soft compression, bypass, peak limiting, link, and power-on functions.
