The SP2120's front panel incorporates a security lock, allowing only the keychain owner to adjust the maximum volume level. In ""Unlock"" mode, two front panel presets are displayed and can be adjusted by the installer. The first adjusts the 16-segment left/right bar graphs to match the input audio, specifying the point at which ""protection"" processing begins. The second sets the absolute volume level that the sound system can achieve. When the SP2120 receives an increased signal level, a transparent ""protection"" circuit activates, maintaining the specified system volume level without degrading sound quality. The SP2120 benefits greatly from Drawmer's 25 years of experience in designing industry-standard dynamic processing devices.

Unlike other protectors that take the form of simple switches, such as powering off or disconnecting speakers, the SP2120 enables very natural level control.
