• デレク・アンド・ザ・ドミノスのボビー・ウィットロック死去

  デラニー&ボニーやエリック・クラプトンと共に結成したデレク・アンド・ザ・ドミノスのメンバーとしても知られる鍵盤奏者、ボビー・ウィットロックが逝去したと、マネージャーが声明を発表しました。享年77歳。
  アメリカ・メンフィス生まれのボビーは、10代の頃からブッカー・Tらと親交を深め、白人アーティストとしては初めてスタックス・レコードと契約。1967年にはサム&デイブのヒット曲に参加するなど、地元のR&Bシーンで活躍しました。
  1968年にはデラニー&ボニーに加入。翌1969年、エリック・クラプトン率いるブラインド・フェイスのツアーでオープニング・アクトを務め、その縁からクラプトンとの共演でライヴ・アルバムの傑作を生み出します。その後、ジョージ・ハリスンのアルバムをはじめ、イギリスでのセッション活動を展開。やがてクラプトンらと共にデレク・アンド・ザ・ドミノスを結成し、1970年にはロック史に残る名盤『いとしのレイラ』を発表しました。アルバムから生まれた同タイトル曲は、クラプトンの代表曲のひとつとしても知られています。
  1971年以降はローリング・ストーンズなどのレコーディングに参加しながらソロ活動も開始。2000年代以降は妻のココ・カーメルと共に精力的に作品をリリースしてきました。
  訃報を受け、エリック・クラプトンも追悼コメントを発表。生まれ持ったメンフィス魂でブリティッシュ・ロックにアーシーなサウンドをもたらし続けた、偉大なミュージシャン
