• ブラジリアン・ミュージックの立役者、セルジオ・メンデス死去

  「マシュ・ケ・ナダ」の大ヒット曲で全世界にボサノヴァを広めたセルジオ・メンデスが死去。享年83歳。1950年代後半からアントニオ・カルロス・ジョビンやジョアン・ジルベルトといったボサノヴァの巨匠となるアーティストたちとブラジルのみならず、国外での活動を精力的に行い、1966年にはセルジオ・メンデス&ブラジル'66としてのデビューアルバム『Sergio Mendes & BRASIL'66』をリリース。大ヒットした「マシュ・ケ・ナダ」をはじめ、ブラジリアン・ミュージックをアメリカの都会的なポップミュージックでコーティングした様な清涼感溢れる音楽性で世界中のポップスファンを魅了。特に昭和時代の日本では多くの家庭でお茶の間音楽としてレコードやカセットテープが浸透しました。来日回数も40回以上と親日家としても知られており、1970年の傑作アルバム『ライヴ・アット・EXPO’70』で聴ける様な、実にアットホームなコンサートを日本の各地で行っておりました。セルジオ・メンデス&ブラジル'66以降もAORファンに人気のアルバムや1984年のロサンゼルス夏季オリンピックのテーマ曲など、多くの作品をリリース。コンサート活動も勢力的に行い、来日の際のライブではよく「日本は第二の故郷です」と日本語でスピーチするなど、日本の音楽ファンの心を癒してきたセルジオ・メンデス。そんなセルジオ・メンデスのヒット曲「マシュ・ケ・ナダ」をお送りして、心よりご冥福をお祈りいたします。
