• Aki Yashiro, Showa Enka Queen, Dies

  It was announced on her official website that Aki Yashiro, a Enka queen of Showa-era songs who had healed the hearts of Japanese people with many hit songs, including "Funauta" and "Ame no Bojo," passed away on December 30. She was 73 years old.
  She made her debut in 1971 with "Ai wa shindemo." Since becoming a big hit singer with "Namida Koi" in 1973, she has been widely loved as the "Queen of Enka" by appearing on singing TV programs and special performances at the Shinjuku Koma Theater.
  In addition, she has appeared in the movie "Truck Man" and the TV program "8 O'clock! All Together", demonstrating her versatility beyond the world of singing.
  Her achievements in bringing joy during the Showa era are etched in the hearts of many.
  In the 1990s and beyond, she continued to sing the theme song for the animated TV series "Very! Lucky Man," released a jazz album that marked a return to her roots, and in 2013, jumped in with Tesshoku Clone X at the heavy metal festival "LOUD PARK 13," she has attracted many fans across generations.
