  1970年のロックを予言したキング・クリムゾンの歴史的名盤『クリムゾン キングの宮殿』。キーボード、サックス、フルートなど様々な楽器を演奏し、作品に圧倒的な叙情性をもたらした初期の中心的メンバー、イアン・マクドナルドが2月9日に死去されました。享年75歳。
  キング・クリムゾン脱退後は、元メンバーのマイケル・ジャイルズとタッグを組んだ、感動的な作品『マクドナルド&ジャイルズ』のリリースや、1970年代後半にはハードロック・バンド、フォリナーを成功させるなど1970年代以降のロック産業を大きく発展させました。1996年にジェネシスのスティーブ・ハケットとともに来日した際には、クリムゾンのナンバーも披露し大活躍だったことを記憶しているファンも多いことでしょう。ロック革新の重要人物として数多くの作品に貢献したイアン・マクドナルドが残した、1996年来日時の熱演をお贈りして、心よりご冥福をお祈りいたします。
