On March 9, 2024, the Sound House Onagawa Children's Music School held a recital at the Onagawa Machinaka Koryukan, the community center in the town of Onagawa, Miyagi Prefecture.
At this music school, Sound House’s experienced staff members teach elementary and junior high school students living in Onagawa how to play musical instruments free of charge.
Nine students from the second year of kindergarten to the second grade of junior high school showcased the results of their daily practicing at this recital.
Instruments included piano, drums, and handbells. They also performed in an ensemble with their instructor.
The students were nervous but proudly presented their performance while their families and townspeople watched them.
Students said, “I want to perform again next year!”, and their eyes lit up.
In Onagawa, the city of music, small musicians are growing up here.
