Introducing Some Great and Functional Junction Boxes!
“Even though I’ve built my pedalboard, it still takes too long to set up.”
“I keep forgetting where to plug things in.”
If you’ve ever had these problems, a junction box might be the solution!
Every guitarist and bassist has their own unique pedalboard setup. By integrating a junction box that suits your system, you not only prevent wiring mistakes but you also greatly speed up your setup time.
In this article, I’ll explain the role of a junction box and I’ll also introduce my recommended models available at Sound House.
The Role and Benefits of a Junction Box

The red-framed area in the image is the junction box.
The main role of a junction box is to consolidate all signal inputs and outputs into a single location.
A pedalboard is only complete when it's connected to external equipment like a guitar, amplifier, etc. The essential link between them is, of course, various cables.
By incorporating a junction box, the connection points between your pedalboard and external gear are centralized, making your wiring more organized and significantly reducing setup time.
Additionally, it helps prevent accidents, such as tripping over cables.
A junction box offers a wide range of advantages for any player.
How to Choose the Right Junction Box for You

Junction boxes come in a variety of configurations
The specifications of a junction box vary depending on the model, so it’s important to choose one that matches your pedalboard setup.
If you select a model with future gear expansion in mind, it can become a long-term, reliable companion.
Specifically, here are the key points to check:
Junction Box Checklist
- Size
- Number of MIDI ports (if any)
- Number of TS (mono) and TRS (stereo) jacks
Additionally, consider the overall system and the specific needs of your effects units. For example:
- ◆ To update the firmware of digital effects units, you may need to connect MIDI IN/OUT to an audio interface.
- ◆ You may want to connect modulation and time-based effects through the amp's send/return loop.
Taking these points into account when choosing a junction box is key to building a comfortable and efficient pedalboard.
Recommended Junction Boxes with Reviews
From here, we’ll introduce recommended junction boxes available at Sound House, selected from those with hands-on user experience and positive reviews.
1. One Control / Minimal Series Pedal Board Junction Box 4M
Port Type | Port Number |
---|---|
TS | 2 |
TRS | 2 |
MIDI | 1 |
Size | |
|
The "Minimal Series Pedal Board Junction Box 4M" is a junction box that covers all the essential terminals needed for modern pedalboards, which all come at a budget-friendly price.
It features a MIDI port, allowing seamless control of an amp via a switcher or integration with rack effects, making it an ideal choice for those looking to introduce MIDI control into their setup.
Its standout feature is the jack placement on both the top and side of the case.
Thanks to the top-mounted jacks, it can be installed along the edge of a pedalboard, and it's also designed to work perfectly with boards that have a height difference between the edge and the effect pedal mounting surface.
2. WARWICK / MOD 1 V2
Port type | Number of Ports |
---|---|
TRS | 5 |
XLR | 1 |
AC IEC | 1 |
Size | |
|
WARWICK, who is well known for their RockBoard series, also offers a range of junction boxes.
WARWICK, who is well known for their RockBoard series, also offers a range of junction boxes.
Their junction boxes are part of the “MOD Series”, which includes a total of seven models: MOD1 through MOD5, MOD MINI DC, and MOD MINI TRS, with each differing in features.
I personally use both the MOD1 and MOD2, the latter of which includes USB and MIDI ports.
The MOD1 stands out as one of the few junction boxes equipped with an AC IEC through port. This allows both signal and power cables to be routed to a single location, contributing to cleaner wiring and quicker setup.
By removing the front plate with the included wrench, installation on non-RockBoard pedalboards is also possible. The thoughtful design really addresses users’ needs in detail.
A Must-Have for Pedalboards: The Junction Box
Though it may not be the flashiest component, a junction box is an essential part of any pedalboard. It offers numerous benefits, such as speeding up your setup process and reducing wiring issues, by centralizing all your input/output connections in one place.
If you choose a model with future expansion in mind, you’ll find the Junction Box to be a long-lasting, dependable piece of gear.
In addition to the models introduced here, Sound House also offers a wide variety of junction boxes. Be sure to check them out!
