In 1993, Sound House was born out of a rusty prefab building in Narita, Japan, and now has grown to become one of the five largest online retailers in the music industry worldwide. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincerest gratitude for all the warm support we have received over the years from our customers all over Japan.
Immediately after the company’s founding, we decided to eliminate the price difference between domestic and international prices, and to this day we keep striving to provide the best possible service to our customers with the philosophy, “provide better products at lower prices!” Even after the advent of online shopping, we have continued to significantly increase our product lineup while focusing on customer convenience. Today, we handle more than 100,000 items, and we are the agent for more than 100 overseas brands.
I’m proud that Sound House has been fortunate enough to keep growing thanks to your warm support over the past 30 years since our founding. Now it is our turn to give back to our fellow musicians who have been supporting the music community throughout Japan. There are many music professionals who work hard in rural areas but are in financial need. The reality is that more and more local music stores, classes, and venues have been forced to close. We would like to give them our immediate support so that they can change this terrible situation and continue sharing music culture with the communities. This is why Sound House would like to hear from you.
Just the other day in Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture, I met the owner of Tsukiyono, a small bar where musicians gather. The owner of the bar has been playing in a local band for a long time and she runs this bar at night and then goes to work during the day. She told me that she was thinking of closing the bar by the end of the year since the entire town had lost its liveliness due to the COVID-19 pandemic and only a few people came. However, her bar is a rare night spot where musicians can stop by to hang out and you can enjoy live music near the train station. I just couldn’t fathom losing it. I decided that Sound House was going to provide musical equipment for free and cover part of the rent instead of paying for equipment display fee. This act helped the bar to continue to exist. I hope that we can help as many people as possible this way, even if we only help just one person or one store.
Please tell us how your local community is doing. We look forward to hearing from you. We will do everything in our power to help you. Sharing your joy with others will also help all of us at Sound House. Please consider letting us help support music stores, classes, and venues across the country in order to revitalize Japan with the power of music. Thank you so much.
