Hello!
It’s Kaoru the composer here!
This time, I would like to cover the recommended sound sources introduction: “Acoustic Guitar Edition.”
Acoustic guitars, just like electric guitars, are difficult to reproduce realistically…
Especially with acoustic instruments, the sense of the material and the feeling of air are extremely important!
However, acoustic guitar sound sources continue to evolve rapidly!
I’ll also introduce nylon-string guitars, so please be sure to use this article as a reference!
PROMINY / Hummingbird Simple Package Delivery
“Hummingbird” is one of PROMINY’s flagship acoustic guitar sound sources.
As the name suggests, it is said to be carefully sampled from the sound of a high-end vintage Gibson guitar (worth approximately 1,000,000 yen).
This single instrument contains an enormous amount of data—around 80GB and 8,900 samples—allowing it to support a wide variety of playing techniques.
I’ve been using it myself for quite some time now, and it has become one of my most frequently used software instruments.
I do own an actual acoustic guitar, but since I’ve started using this, I’ve almost completely stopped recording it myself.
That’s how realistic it is.
It does take a bit of time to program, but once you get used to it, you can work through things quickly and smoothly.
And above all, the most appealing aspect is its customizability.
Because you can freely customize chords, even unusual chords and slash chords sound natural.
It also supports NKS, so if you’re a Komplete Kontrol user, finding presets will be easy.
I recommend this to anyone looking for a Gibson-style acoustic guitar sound!!
Since this sound source is made by a Japanese manufacturer, all installation guides and manuals are provided in Japanese.
Even those who tend to stumble during setup can use it with confidence.
VIR2 / ACOU6TICS Software Acoustic Guitar Sound Source
This is an acoustic guitar sound source from VIR2, the developer of the electric guitar sound source “ELECTRI6ITY.”
- Steel guitar
- 12-string guitar
- Nylon
- Strings
- Ukulele
- Mandolin
- Guitalele
A wide variety of instruments are included.
All are carefully recorded using both stereo microphones and piezo pickups.
It is equipped with multifunctionality that covers all the essential playing techniques required for guitar performance.
It operates on Native Instruments KONTAKT 5 PLAYER version 5.3 or later.
Body knocks, slaps, and other techniques are also included, making it suitable for solo acoustic guitar performances.
UJAM / Virtual Guitarist Amber
An acoustic guitar sound source that can be used across all genres, not limited to only pop and ballads.
By including a rich selection of presets and phrases, it achieves realistic performances with minimal programming.
It detects chords from the input harmonies—such as major, minor, seventh, and more—so even those who don’t understand guitar voicings can use it with confidence.
By displaying the main parameters on the main screen, it’s designed so you can grasp the information at a glance.
A nylon guitar sound source with a gentle tone.
UJAM’s signature user interface is very easy to understand and nice to use!
The delicate fingerpicking sounds are extremely clear and beautiful.
With simple key switch operations, you can play arpeggios, patterns, and chord riffs.
It’s a sound source that works well not only for production but also for performance.
After looking at Sound House’s product page, I realized that there are surprisingly few sound sources dedicated specifically to nylon guitar, so I think it would be interesting to try adding this one.
MUSIC LAB / REAL GUITAR 5 / BOX
A dedicated acoustic guitar software instrument that includes both nylon-string and steel-string sounds.
- 12-string to 14-string switching
- Baritone tuning
- Two types of Nashville tuning
It’s clear that this was developed with a wide variety of use cases in mind!
It consists of two instruments, “REAL GUITAR STEEL STRING” and “REAL GUITAR CLASSIC,” and “REAL GUITAR STEEL STRING” was newly added with five different recorded acoustic guitar tones.
It’s perfect for those who are particular about acoustic guitar sound quality.
By using the “Humanize” option, which allows you to apply randomization effects to a total of nine parameters such as note timing, it delivers performances that sound as if a real person is actually playing.
As for effects, it only includes reverb, tremolo, and chorus, but that’s more than enough for acoustic guitar!
Be sure to check out the official video at least once!
You’ll be amazed by how realistic it is!
That wraps up my recommended sound source introduction, “Acoustic Guitar / Nylon Guitar Edition.”
The product I recommend most for beginners is UJAM!
Acoustic instruments make excellent learning material when studying programming, so I really hope you’ll give them a try!
