< 2.4GHz Wireless System for Guitar XSW-D Pedalboard Set >
In recent years, wireless systems have become an indispensable tool in live performances, with many systems now available that offer high sound quality and advanced features at affordable prices, making wireless systems accessible to everyone. Needless to say, they are ideal for vocal use, but they are also effective for instruments that involve a lot of movement. For guitarists in particular, who often struggle with cable management, this is a piece of gear they’ve long admired.
In this review, I will introduce the guitar wireless system “XSW-D Pedalboard Set” released by SENNHEISER, a standard brand name in professional wireless microphones.
Effector-Pedal-Style Receiver and Lightweight, Compact Transmitter
When you open the package, true to the name “XSW-D Pedalboard Set”, everything you need to integrate it into your pedalboard is included.
Of course, it comes with both the receiver and transmitter, as well as connection cables, charging cables, and even identification stickers.

The receiver looks just like a compact effects pedal.
Its size and texture are very similar, and like a compact effects pedal, it has a robust construction. With inexpensive devices, it’s not uncommon to worry that they might break if you step on the switch, but this one doesn’t seem likely to break from being stepped on. The underside is also covered with a steel plate, clearly conveying its sturdiness.
In addition, screw holes are provided for fixing it to a pedalboard, and the positions of these holes are clearly shown in the included diagram. You can secure it with Velcro or other methods, or firmly fix it in place with screws.

The transmitter is rechargeable, making it extremely compact and lightweight. It fits seamlessly on my Stratocaster. While it’s connected straight on the Strat, the plug is designed to bend, allowing compatibility with a wide range of guitars.

A belt clip and extension cable are also included. Since the transmitter itself is lightweight, it’s unlikely to fall off when connected directly, but if you’re concerned, attaching it to the guitar strap is a good option.
The extension cable doesn’t just extend the connection—it also allows the transmitter to be attached to guitars where it wouldn’t normally fit. Additionally, using the belt clip and extension cable lets you mount the transmitter on the back of your guitar strap or belt. The extension cable is just the right length, making cable management easy.

Simple Operation Anyone Can Use
The XSW-D Pedalboard Set is a wireless system that uses the 2.4GHz band, the same as Wi-Fi, so no license applications are required. It can be used easily anywhere in the world, not just in Japan.
Setup is extremely simple and feels more like using a Bluetooth device than a traditional wireless system. With most wireless devices, selecting the correct frequency is important and can be tricky, but this system uses the concept of “pairing”, so you don’t need to worry about frequencies or signals.
Moreover, the units are pre-paired at the factory, so normally no pairing is needed. You can start using it as soon as you open the box.
One transmitter-receiver set can be used at a time, but additional transmitters can be purchased. When switching to a different transmitter, pairing is required: hold down the switch while powering on to enter pairing mode, then press the button on the transmitter you want to use. When pairing is complete, the LED lights up green. Because you don’t need to worry about frequencies, even those unfamiliar with wireless systems can easily set up and use this system.

< Instead of selecting a frequency, pairing is done like a Bluetooth device >
Since the system is focused solely on transmitting the signal wirelessly, there are no useless functions. The receiver only has a footswitch button. Pressing the switch mutes the signal and activates the tuner. Pressing it again cancels the mute. That’s all the operation you need. Muting can be controlled not only from the receiver but also from the transmitter, with the display synchronized between them.

Transmission Distance of a Comfortable 75 m, Battery Life Up to About 5 Hours
Since this system is intended for stage use, transmission distance is an important consideration.
The XSW-D Pedalboard Set features a compact transmitter and an antenna-free receiver, yet it achieves a transmission distance of approximately 75 m (250 ft), setting it apart from cheaper wireless systems. This provides ample range for use not only on stage but even moving into the audience in most venues.
When approaching the edge of the transmission range, the LED lights red to indicate you’re nearing the limit.
Transmission distance may vary depending on signal conditions.
The transmitter uses a rechargeable 850 mAh lithium-ion battery, charged via a USB-C connector. It can be charged by connecting to the receiver with the included cable or via a standard USB power adapter. When the battery is running low, both the transmitter and receiver display a warning, indicating that the battery needs to be recharged.

If battery life is a concern, it’s a good idea to have a spare transmitter on hand.
High Sound Quality That Doesn’t Feel Wireless
I also checked the aspects most important to guitarists: sound quality and latency.
In conclusion, the XSW-D Pedalboard Set delivers excellent sound quality for a wireless system, and no noticeable delay was detected even during cutting-style guitar playing.
While cables remain an important factor in determining sound quality for guitar performance, the XSW-D Pedalboard Set lives up to SENNHEISER’s reputation with impeccable sound, especially in recording. On stage or during rehearsal, it would be difficult to detect any difference in sound quality.
Additionally, the receiver is equipped with an XLR balanced output, allowing you to send a separate signal to a PA or recording device, independent of the amp output. For live recording, capturing the line output on a separate track could prove useful later.

< The receiver also provides a low-noise balanced output >
This wireless system, which combines the sound quality and reliability cultivated in professional audio with excellent usability at an affordable price, is likely to become a standard item for guitarists.
