When you think of Vocaloid, Hatsune Miku is the first who comes to mind, right? This song was created through a collaboration between two Vocaloid producers and is the official theme song for “SNOW MIKU 2017”. If this song is the most popular, then many people should be singing or performing it… so I searched further.

Next, I tried searching for “Hatsune Miku Star Night Snow cover.” By adding “cover,” you can perform a more niche search. Many results were displayed, but in the search results, many people had uploaded “dance covers” or “original animations”, and surprisingly very few people were actually singing or performing the song. Popular songs are searched for by many people, but many people also upload “singing covers” or “instrumental covers,” so for newly uploaded videos, it is difficult to appear at the top of search results until YouTube recognizes them as good videos.

“Hatsune Miku Star Night Snow” is a very popular song, yet there are fairly few people singing or performing it, which makes it a good opportunity. If you are confident in your ability to sing or play this song well, you can likely aim for an increase in view counts. Having a high-quality video is one factor that leads to higher view counts.

■ Searching the second most popular keyword, “winter songs Western music,” on YouTube

When I searched YouTube for the keyword “winter songs Western music”, which is popular after “winter songs Vocaloid”, many Christmas songs appeared. Since I’m writing this article in late October, it feels a bit early, but Western songs seem to take time to practice, so aiming to upload around mid-November should be just right. The third item from the top, “Songs to Listen to in Winter Christmas Winter Songs Popular Mix Playlist,” seemed likely to include songs that adults would enjoy, so I checked it out.

This is the song displayed at the very top of that mix playlist.

To be honest, I had hardly ever listened to Justin Bieber before, but when I listened to it, it was a pleasant song with a bouncy rhythm and a finger-snapping sound. There were also extremely famous songs by Mariah Carey and Wham!, but I decided that I wanted to sing this song because of its stylish feel.

○ Next, I searched on YouTube for “Justin Bieber Mistletoe cover”

When I search for “Justin Bieber Mistletoe cover”, there are quite a lot of people singing it. Excluding ads, the top result is the singer Miri. She’s a great singer—and I also like her boldness of singing while holding what looks like a large condenser microphone!

However, even this video has only 1,853 views, and the view counts of other videos are not very high either, except for covers by professionals. This leaves you wondering whether to see it as a chance with weak competition, or to think that even if you upload a video, the view count may not grow much. Hmm… so, following the idea of using Rakko Keyword for when I’m unsure, I tried searching for “Mistletoe Justin Bieber” on Rakko Keyword.

Then, keywords such as “mistletoe justin bieber lyrics” and “mistletoe justin bieber guitar chords” came up as frequently searched terms, showing that many people want to know the lyrics or guitar chords. This applies to any song, but quite a lot of people watch “singing covers” or “playing covers” on YouTube in order to practice singing or playing by themselves.

When it comes to foreign songs, the lyrics can be hard to understand, so having the English pronunciation written in katakana would make it even easier to follow. There were several people who had uploaded this song with lyrics included. In order to reach the same level as their videos, adding lyrics is essential. If you can also play the guitar, you would ideally upload the video with both lyrics and guitar chords included. Editing the video takes a tremendous amount of effort, but it’s definitely something you want to do.

I can’t say for sure that this song will definitely gain more views, but if I were to sing one Christmas song, I think I would choose this one.
