We repair par lights, moving heads, and various lighting equipment every day, and we have found something in common when inspecting the equipment that we have been asked to repair.
The equipment that we come across is usually very dirty. Accumulated dust, fog dirt from a smoke machine, cigarette dirt, confetti inside the equipment... the way the equipment gets so dirty depends on the environment.
Dirt damages the circuit board and parts, which could then lead to a short in the power supply area and cause a fire in the worst case scenario. Cleaning on a regular basis will make the equipment last longer and safer to use.
This time, I'm going to show you how we cleaned a moving head.
The equipment we were asked for repair this time is an EK PRO E3 SPOT.
It looks clean at first glance but...

you can see dust on the mounting part of the cooling fan.
I opened it to take a look inside...

Dust has piled up around the inlet on the base and the head parts.
Since this is where the air from the cooling fan passes through, dust easily piles up.
The dirt caused by dust can cause malfunctions as well.
Now, let's clean it!
Remove the dust with a vacuum cleaner, air duster, and brush...

It's clean now!
This should extend the life of this moving head!
Cleaning is the basis of proper maintenance for any equipment; cleaning is not only for moving heads.
For some items, you can't get the manufacturer's warranty once you disassemble it, so we recommend cleaning as much as possible without opening it.
Just removing dust off the inlet with a vacuum cleaner will make it pretty clean.
You can easily find cleaning tools such as cotton swabs, brushes, and air dusters at home improvement stores and 100-yen shops, so why not take this opportunity to maintain your equipment?
