Stereo tone-shaping FET compressor with four character switches and variable saturation control.

In addition to the usual ratio, threshold, attack, and release controls, the 1978 features four character switches offering a wide range of compression flavors and a variable saturation control for adding harmonic distortion to your signal. Sidechain functionality includes sidechain insert points on both channels and a comprehensive, flexible sidechain EQ section with LF/HF control for frequency-selective LF/HF control. This allows for precise frequency-sensitive compression, including de-essing. The Wet/Mix control also allows you to blend the processed signal with the dry signal for parallel compression.

Additionally, a fast-responding dual-color backlit VU meter indicates the amount of added saturation. A time-delay relay is built into the output, providing clean power-up and power-down without pops or bangs, and a low-hum toroidal linear power supply.

The 1978 is a bus compressor like no other, offering distinctive compression, controlled distortion, tonal shaping, and wet/dry mixing. This compressor delivers an elusive, distinctive sound that sets it apart. Glue your mix and bring out the bass. Control the highs, add warmth and distortion, smooth out sounds, and widen them.
