To all the string lovers out there! Do you know how many kinds of picks we have at Sound House? We have more than 2,000 kinds of picks! With such a wide variety, there must be some interesting picks in addition to the standard ones.
So this time, I would like to introduce some picks that I have selected and recommend based on what I like!
If you don't know what kind of picks and their characteristics are, please read the following Tora no Maki first!
⇒ Tora no Maki "How to Choose a Pick”
1. Jim Dunlop / TORTEX TRIANGLE 0.73mm
There isn’t a guitarist who has not seen this turtle. When I was a beginner, this was the first pick I was given, and I remember being surprised at the unique tactile feel of TORTEX, which is different from a slippery underlay or a rough yen coin, and thinking, "This is a pick?” ...... This is a classic pick that everyone uses at least once.
2. FENDER / 346 Shape Shell Medium
Fender's celluloid pick is one of the most popular picks with a traditional sound. The celluloid picks have a nice, smooth, and clean tone.
3. Janicek Picks / Jazz Picks B 1.18mm
Now that we have continued with our regular products, I would like to introduce a new pick that will be released for the first time in Japan in August.
These picks are from the Czech Republic and feature a new non-slip feel as if they stick right to your fingers. I have used many picks in the past, but I have never seen such a strong and natural anti-slip pick. It bites when you apply force, but when you hold it softly, the grip is similar to that of a regular pick, so it works well for both chord and solo playing!
4. Jim Dunlop / ULTEX JAZZ3
Speaking of standard picks, this one is also indispensable. This is the JAZZ Ⅲ type made of ULTEX material, which is smooth and silky but has a good grip. Each pick has deep-rooted popularity, and I personally think this is the best combination among them. It is often said that these picks are similar to human fingernails, and I really feel that this is true.
5. CLAYTON / ULTEM US/0.45
This pick has a stronger attack than ULTEX and a sharp, bright tone. It has a soft and bright sound like a tortoiseshell, and it’s a favorite of many people because it fits very well on the fingertips.
From here, these are the ones that I want to show you that I think, "Interesting! I want it! I want it!”
6. NIHON GORAKU Variety / Chibimaruko-chan Pick Rock Tomozou
I couldn't help but smile when I was looking at various products for this project. It is Tomozo from Chibimaruko-chan. He has an excellent sense of haiku(?). So maybe he is a lyricist in the band. It is a funny and kawaii pick!
7. Knc Picks / CASEINZ Glacial
These are handmade picks from Istanbul. I felt that the design, feel, and durability were all excellent. I fell in love with this pick when I saw it in person, and now I always carry it with me. The surface is smooth, but strangely enough, it doesn’t slip and has a good grip.
8. SCORELAY PICKS / Chiikawa picks, blue
The official name of Chiikawa is "”Nanka Chiisakute Kawaii Yatsu” (something small and cute). I love this manga and I follow it every day. I actually tried playing "Hitorigotsu" with it, and of course it was easy to play and I felt like Hachi-Ware. I recommend this to Chiikawa fans who don't play guitar.
9. MASTER 8 JAPAN / PFC-SAKURA
This pick is a collaboration between MASTER 8 JAPAN, which has earned a high reputation for outstanding quality, and NAO YOSHIHARA, who is popular worldwide for his fusion of Japanese and Western styles. It is a chic piece that combines design and playability.
Extra Edition. DADDARIO / 1CAB4-15BT1 BEATLES PICK TIN - Logo
Extra Edition. Right On STRAPS PICK POUCH PLAIN / Blue
Lastly, I would like to introduce to all of you a keychain-type pick case. No need for words. It's just simple and cute. If you attach it to your house key, you may never have to worry about being robbed of your picks again!
This time, I showed you various picks from standard picks to my favorite picks. Picks are indispensable for your stringed instrument life. Please find your favorite picks at Sound House!
