Do you have a favorite game? And, do you have any favorite music from those games? In this day and age, there are many games on various platforms. Among them, there are so many wonderful songs that immediately take you back to the vivid scenes of the game from your memories just by listening to the music. In this issue, I will focus on this kind of game music. Let us begin by introducing you to them...!
■ Aquatic Ambience
This is the song played in the underwater stage from Donkey Kong. I am sure many of you know this song, and it is one of the most famous songs of all time. I was an elementary school student playing this game on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) when it first came out, and I vividly remember stopping what I was doing after hearing this song because of the greatness and impact of the song. It is one of my favorite songs that has not faded in the least even now that I am an adult.
■ Swivel
Here is another masterpiece. From Seiken Densetsu 3 (Trials of Mana), this is the song that plays in the “Ougon no Kaidou” “Golden Road” section. To be honest, all the songs in Trials of Mana are wonderful, but this song is one that I will never forget. Of all the RPGs I've played,ToM is probably the one I've played the most repeatedly. As an aside, I really enjoyed the fact that the game's ending and route changed depending on the main character you choose, which was radical for a game of that time. I loved it so much that I even arranged my own songs and played them by ear, and I have great memories of it.
■ Kaze no Shokei (Wind Longing)
A song that makes you feel the wind from Chrono Trigger. I believe that this is a royal road song that will leave an impression on everyone who has played the game. It makes me feel as if I am looking at a distant landscape, not to mention the gorgeous scenes from the game. I am about to reveal my age, but back then when I was desperately playing Chrono Trigger on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), I honestly wondered how on earth they could create such wonderful music. I still wonder about it today.
■ Heads In The Clouds
From the game MOON by Lovedelic, this song has a floating feeling. The game system of MOON was unique, and it was a novel system in which songs played in the game could be purchased with in-game currency. This was something that had never been done before. Moreover, the purchased songs can be played at any time and in any situation. In other words, the music in the game is up to you. This song is one of those songs. You can listen to the song lightly before buying it in the game, and I fell in love with it at first sight from the jacket to the atmosphere of the song. It's just beautiful.
■ Lost Painting
This last song is a mysterious one from Castlevania: Nocturne under the Moon. I love this song so much that I think I will probably listen to it for the rest of my life. I won't go into too much detail because I don’t want to spoil certain scenes, but when this song first came on, I couldn't stop getting goosebumps because of the match between the game's image and the song, and I was so shocked that I almost cried. If you have played the Castlevania series, you will shake my hand silently and nod deeply as I introduce this song.
So, how was it? I am sure you have heard some of these songs before. In fact, there are many more gaming nerd songs that I would like to introduce, but I will do that when I have a chance to write again. Have a good game music life!
