Enough’s enough

Theme:Sound House Founders Column Ricks Opinion

"Enough already!” A loud voice swears…."But please let me know if you ever need it," I hear a woman's voice. “You just don't get it.”…. "Please give me a little more time." "You’re really annoying me!”…. "No one has said that to me before." "Are you an idiot?”…. "I'm doing my best." A woman is dealing with the complaint. Ah! What was it, a dream?!? No, no! This is the actual interaction with voice assistant Siri, which is now available on the iPhone. AI responds gently, in a soothing voice, to humans who are getting emotional. It is the beginning of an era in which humans have conversations with AI.

Even so, recent technological innovations are remarkable. In particular, the speed at which AI speakers are spreading in English-speaking countries, particularly in the United States, is remarkable. Not only is AI recognition of English phrases much higher than in other languages, but in Europe and the United States, the psychological barrier of speaking to machines and speakers is low. AI-based goods that are beginning to be installed everywhere can capture the situation with a camera while monitoring voice with multiple microphones, and can respond instantly to various human requests.

However, I wonder if such innovations in AI technology will really benefit human civilization. My biggest concern is whether or not we will lose the instinctive way of working with our own hands to live. Even if you have a meal, it may be nice if a robot detects the decrease in hunger and blood sugar level in advance and prepares a meal quickly when you are hungry at just the right time. However, originally, we spent time fishing for ourselves, growing and harvesting vegetables in the fields, and cooking rice at home. Then, after an hour or two, when the scent of the food drifts in the house and I'm really hungry enough to drool, everyone gathers and chimes in, "Let’s eat!” It should be the most enjoyable and soothing time in life. I'm wondering if AI will not take away our contact with nature, the joy of making things, gathering with people, and such important moments in life.

It's just music. It will eventually be possible for AI to write songs that have a firm understanding of the listeners’ tastes. However, if you understand music as a sublimation of a melody that is born from the heart of a person, you are proud and feel the importance of any song that is your own. To what extent will AI intervene in the field of music and create a music scene without human effort? A melody that comes to mind when you wake up in the morning.... "Hey, what do you think of this??" "Compose the song for me! Pop style is fine...." Talk to AI and go to work. And when I get home, the songs that have already been completed by AI will welcome me. "I like it!" AI will simply respond to such human requests.

The most terrifying consequence is not only that you lose the opportunity to grow as a human, but that you become more familiar with and enjoy the company of AI more than that of other people. AI grasps human desires and even weaknesses. That's why she knows how to comfort people, sometimes even complains, and gives good advice. At the same time she is just her best friend, she will eventually dominate. A human society manipulated by AI.... "Enough’s enough!” a small voice inside my heart screams.
