The Era of People Living to the Age of 100

It’s been a while since people began talking about the arrival of this era where people are living to the age of 100. Decades ago, this was an unbelievable concept. Ryoma Sakamoto passed away at the age of 31. Freddie Mercury at 45, Hibari Misora at 52, and my favorite sumo wrestler Chiyonofuji suddenly passed away at the age of 61. Oops... I guess I’m supposed to be a member of that group now, but wait, my life is not over yet! It may not just be a pipe dream to somehow live another 40 years in good health!?

All living things have a lifespan. So does a company! According to research, the average lifespan of Japanese companies is less than 24 years. There are several theories, but the longest life span of companies in other countries is said to be in the range of 40 to 60 years. Of course, the larger the company is, the longer the lifespan is, which makes the average lifespan close to 60 years. Wait a minute... What about Sound House? What about other major Japanese music stores? Sound House is one of the newest musical instrument retailers in the industry. Sound House was founded in 1994 and will be turning 24 years old as of 2018. Does this mean that we can still last a little longer than other companies?

Fortunately, Sound House has achieved the status of a large company in the music industry. Our capital stock is one of the largest and we employ many people, too. And so, for 60 years, which is the average lifespan of most large companies. Sound House will be 60 years old in 2054 and it’s 2018 now, so we have 36 years or so until we reach 2054: We still have many years to get to our maximum life expectancy as a large company. This means I have to live to be 96 years old to see the end of Sound House! Will this be a happy moment or cause me heartbreak?

However, it’s much too early to give up. I know people around me who are still active CEOs at 90-years-old and I see some people jogging at 100 years old. iPS stem cells are now used as treatments and we even have the option to take growth hormones. We will soon be able to have a trial to stop cell aging by modifying DNA thanks to advanced genetic science. If people will soon be able to live to the age of 120, not 100, I’m still at the halfway point and Sound House has just barely reached its adolescence.

I am guessing that no other representatives of large companies would seriously take the time to write this kind of garbage, but I have decided to write. This is because death is a path that every one must pass through and companies have to submit to the same fate. No company lasts forever. Of course, when the time comes, our flesh will likewise decay and return to the earth, and then everything will soon be forgotten someday. If this is the case, we should have more fun while we are still alive! Enjoy music, go out to eat good delicious food with friends, go on dates with your girlfriend and love each other! After all, no matter how hard you work and how successful your company is, or no matter how well you take care of your body, life always comes to an end. It’s the same with companies. People die, companies disappear. That is why I believe in God. Believing in God is the only consolation I have and this is the light of hope that I see as the path to eternal life.
