Hello. I'm an “around-50” guitarist who mainly uploads hard rock guitar copies (VAN HALEN etc.) and original guitar instrumentals on YouTube.

You can find a lot of information about guitars and bands on YouTube, including bands like Biffy Clyro, Muse, Dizzy Mizz Lizzy and Alice in Chains and so on. You can see old footage that I couldn't easily see when I was a teenager, such as Jeff Beck in the 70's and more retroactively Les Paul and Roy Clark performances. When I first started playing the guitar, older guys said, "If you want to improve, it's very important that you go back to the guitarist that influenced the guitarist you like. By doing so, you can broaden your range and expand your originality”. Difficult advice. I went back to check for myself, but the information in the 1980s was limited to information from TV, radio, guitar magazines, records, CDs, older players, friends, etc. There was also a limit. Now, with the advent of YouTube, it has become possible to see and hear videos and sound sources from various eras, and to go back in as much detail as possible. It seems that the history of guitar music goes back and forth like a time machine.
As you can see, YouTube is very enjoyable as entertainment, and there are many things that are very educational, such as music theory, history, and guitar structure.

Among them, I learned of a video of a sound source called "Shigeru Narumo's Rock Guitar Lesson Advanced Edition B Side" from an instructional cassette tape that came with Greco electric guitars in the 1970s. He explains in detail about guitar playing and music theory. By the way, when I bought a Greco Les Paul in 1986, it didn't come with the cassette. In this doctrine, there is a story about the formation of chords. For example, when you play the E chord, the open 6th string that is the root, there are actually harmonics other than E, which are inaudible to humans. So, the 5th fret harmonics are E with 6th string open, 4th string 2nd fret, 1st string open, 7th fret harmonics are B with 5th string 2nd fret, 2nd string open, 9th fret is G # with 3rd string 1st fret I will. If you arrange these in order from the 6th string, the 6th string will be open, the 5th string will be on the 2nd fret, the 4th string will be on the 2nd fret, the 3rd string will be on the 1st fret, the 2nd string will be open, and the 1st string will be open. A chord is not just a sequence of sounds, but includes a sequence of sounds that are hard or inaudible to humans when the 6th string open is sounded. I've been strumming E chords for over 30 years without knowing that, so the depth of the guitar, the mysterious feeling that chords are a reproduction of inaudible sounds as well, and above all, Shigeru Narumo's music, I was very impressed by the depth of knowledge and passion for the guitar. Besides, the explanation of music theory related to the guitar was very easy to understand. There was still a lot I didn't know about the guitar, and learning that made me realize how wonderful the guitar is.

For me, the guitar is really fun and I’ll never get tired of it, and there is nothing more fun than this. When I first started, I never thought I would be playing at around 50, and of course I didn't have YouTube at that time, so I never imagined that I would be uploading my own performances.
Like Shigeru Narumo's sound source, I hope that the knowledge I gained on YouTube will spread like branches and leaves, and I will be able to further realize the appeal of the guitar and grow forever.

Thank you for reading.
