I started using cheap patch cables, and now I love the flat ones from EBS.

In terms of the distance between effectors, there are some that have plugs stuck together. (Audio technica's ATL430CM) They’re also convenient, but you can't connect them well unless you're using them all from the same manufacturer, and you need to worry about how to apply the load. I hope it's in a loop.
