Lets play with Playtech ~ Customize cheap picks ~

Hello, I am Cheena, a brass band bassist.
Firstly, I have a question.
If you are told "You can make a permanently anti-slip pick for 200 yen and in 5 minutes" and that "you can quickly fix a scraped pick for 500 yen if you have the tools", would you believe it?
There is a way to do it. No special skills are required. Let me explain.

Here is what you need to make a permanently anti-slip pick. You only need a small pin vise like the one shown below, and you can get it for 100 yen. I recommend 2 mm or 3 mm.

You'll need a piece of wood, but you can also use folded cardboard from Sound House.
You don't have to worry about where you make holes in what shape
but I usually make holes in a hexagon or triangle.

Here they are. The holes drilled with the pin vise allow you to hold the pick firmly.
If the holes hurt your fingers, use a drill bit or a conical drill that is 2 to 3 sizes thicker.

You can get all of these at a hundred-yen shop.
By the way, those with trypophobia may not like the picks with holes.

Here is what you need to modify the pick. This is a "hobby planer" that you can buy for about 500 yen.

Unlike ordinary planers, this is very easy to handle, such as in the way you can adjust the blade with screws. Hard plastic such as acrylic and pick materials other than metal can be roughly scraped.
This doesn't need any more explanation. Anyway, I will scrape the pick to smooth the edges. Instead of trying to make a large pick, I think it's easier to use if it is smaller.

Place the blade perpendicular to the pick, scrape the pick, and then hold the plane diagonally to chamfer.

Pls do not chamfer too much, and be careful when scraping.

However, since the pick was going to be thrown away anyway, don't hesitate. Let's make a pick that suits your hand, and to save money.

This time I wrote about pick modification and reproduction. They may only cost little at Sound House, but I think that you will be less likely to drop or lose an anti-slip processed pick. It's fun to overcome the pick hiding monster!

By the way, if you use a hobby plane, you can easily make a bass finger rest, ramp, and pick guard. I will introduce these in a future article.
Let's have a good music life!
