A passive equalizer with powerful sound shaping abilities. The RS56 Universal Control was introduced in the early 1950s and was used at Abbey Road Studio as part of the pre-processing process for vinyl production, a process we today call ""mastering."" The RS56's dramatic control capabilities were very different from the treble and bass EQs found on mixing consoles at the time, earning it the nickname ""The Curve Bender,"" and Abbey Road's pop engineers began using the RS56 for studio recording.
