WAVESの「Sibilance」は、ボーカルの耳障りな歯擦音（サ行の音など）を驚くほど自然に除去してくれるプラグインです。従来のディエッサーにありがちな「音がこもる」「活舌が悪く聴こえる」といった副作用を最小限に抑え、必要な成分だけをピンポイントで捉えてくれる優れもの。なかでもこのプラグインを使用する最大のメリットは、かつてエンジニアが膨大な時間をかけて行っていた「手コンプ（ボリュームオートメーションの手書き）」の作業を自動化できること！私はこのプラグインを、コンプレッサーをかける前のクリーンアップとして活用しています。コンプで音を圧縮すると隠れていた刺さる音が強調されがちですが、前段でSibilanceを通しておくことで、高域のクリアさを維持したまま滑らかなボーカルラインを作ることが可能です。また、センド＆リターンで空間系へ送る際もこの処理が非常に大切。歯擦音が抑えられた状態でリバーブに送ることで、残響の中に嫌なキンキンとした耳障りなノイズが混ざらなくなり、空間全体が上品な響きに仕上がります。操作はTHRESHOLDを調整するだけで非常にシンプル。難しい設定抜きに、プロフェッショナルな質感へ即座にたどり着けます。現代のボーカルミックスに欠かせないツールの「Sibilance」をぜひお試しください！
