Comfortable distortion and compression
The CLA-76 Blacky/Bluey is inspired by two different versions of a class A line level limiter amplifier released in the mid-60s. Both the ""Blacky"" and ""Bluey"" versions offer the same ultra-fast attack (up to 50 milliseconds!) that has become a studio legend, just like the original.

Of course, the unique ""ALL"" control that reproduces the original ""all buttons pressed"" mode and the modeled preamp distortion allow you to create powerful drum sounds beyond your imagination.

Two versions of the CLA-76 (""Blacky"" and ""Bluey""), modeled after the two most desired revisions of the Class A line level limiting amplifier, offer the super fast attack (around 50ms!) that has become legendary in studios.

Available in two most popular revisions
The CLA-76 is modeled after one of the most famous solid-state compressors/limiters in music history, a unique product that uses FETs for gain control. At the time, about 8,000 units were produced and at least 13 revisions were made. Waves modeled the two most highly acclaimed revisions.

Revision B: Chris' personal favorite revision B. It is sometimes called ""Silverface Bluestripe"". Modeling was done using the model.

Revision D-LN (Low Noise): Revision D-LN, also known as Blackface. This is the most famous version of the 76 compressor.

The main differences between these two revisions are the gain stage and time constants (attack time/release time), as well as the THD (total harmonic distortion) and noise level. The CLA-76 even models the noise of the original preamp.

The World's Most Rare Compressor
Chris is known for his punchy sound and hard compression techniques, and Waves was granted exclusive permission to model his most valuable vintage compressor, and with Chris's help at every stage of development, we were able to turn it into a plug-in. The precisely modeled CLA-76 provides the characteristic sound of classic compressors, along with a number of presets created by Chris.
