Smooth Optical Compressor
Modeled on the legendary Electro-Optical tube compressor, the CLA-2A reproduces the smooth, frequency-tracking behavior of the original that made it a favorite of engineers around the world. Like its mid-60s classic, the CLA-2A is great for guitars and basses and makes vocals shine. Chris Lord-Alge's own hand-crafted presets and unlimited instantiations completely surpass the original, providing sounds that surpass your inspiration.

Learning from the pastThe CLA-2A is modeled after a hand-wired tube compressor manufactured by Teletronix in the early 1960s. The original, originally intended for broadcast use, used an electroluminescent optical attenuator called the ""T4"" for gain reduction.

The phosphorescent circuit, unlike many other designs, does not add distortion when modulating the sound. It was also inspired by the frequency-dependent speed of the CLA-2A's attack and response, which quickly caught the attention of audio engineers. The CLA-2A's greatest feature is its program-dependent multi-stage release, achieved by two photocells. The frequency response is 30Hz-15kHz (±1dB), the THD is less than 0.5%, and the original was capable of gain limiting up to 40dB.
