The 5017 is a mobile mic pre/DI/compressor that combines Portico's world-class preamp and compressor in a rugged, portable design. It also features variphase, Silk circuitry, and DI/mic blending, making it ideal for a wide range of musical applications, from recording to live performances.

■Key Features

Two Channel Operation
Equipped with two transformer-coupled outputs, the 5017 allows you to send the DI/Blend and Mic Preamp signals to a mixing console or powered speakers via separate line outputs. The Mic Preamp can always be output independently, and the DI output outputs only the DI signal by setting the Blend control all the way to ""INST.""

Silk
This feature has many notable features, but simply put, it enhances the sound quality of vintage modules. Enabling the Silk button reduces negative feedback and affects the frequency distribution, resulting in a sweet, musical result. Hear for yourself.

Mic Gain
Properly amplifies the microphone signal from 0 dB to 66 dB.

DI Gain
Boosts the DI input signal from 0 dB to 30 dB.

DI Input
Balanced or unbalanced high-impedance input for connecting instruments.

High Pass Filter / HPF
High-pass filters are useful anywhere in the signal chain, and they also play an important role in microphone preamps. They are useful for removing unwanted low frequencies when recording with a microphone. They are particularly effective at eliminating building rumble, air conditioning motor noise, and hum. The 5017's HPF reduces or eliminates unwanted noise below 80 Hz at a rate of 12 dB/octave (a curve that attenuates 12 dB for every octave of musical pitch).

Phantom Power
Provides 48V power for studio condenser microphones. The on/off switch is located on the rear panel.

Phase Inverts / O - Phase Polarity
Inverts the phase of the microphone input by 180 degrees.

Threshold
Sets the signal level at which the compressor engages. The compressor engages when the signal level reaches or exceeds the threshold. The 5017's compression ratio is fixed at 2:1, and the attack and release times can be switched between standard and fast using internal jumpers.

Indicators
The 5017 is equipped with an indicator that lights up in response to the signal input and is used to set the input gain. It is recommended to set the gain just enough to avoid clipping. It also has an indicator that shows the compressor's operation.

Internal Jumpers
The 5017 has two jumper settings: One is to set the compressor as a mic pre only, and the other is to set it to have a faster compressor speed (attack and release).
