Get to Know the Xvive U8, a New Choice in Mics for Acoustic Guitar

2024-12-30

Theme:Guitars

The other day, I was talking with a friend about how good old anime and manga are. He recommended Space Cobra to me, so I started watching it. It’s really good!
Despite the stinky, hard-boiled dialogue, the main character is quite playful and the atmosphere is quite addictive. Please watch this anime when you are cold and don't want to leave your house. Okay, let's talk about Cobra.

Now, let’s move on to the main topic of this issue, the U8 Acoustic Guitar Wireless System from Xvive! They have an established reputation for wireless devices for musical instruments!

Actually, there are other versions for violin and wind instruments, but since I can only play the guitar, I used the U8 for acoustic guitar this time!

First, here’s what it looks like when you open the box.

It is compactly packaged in a solid case, so it is conveniently sized to fit in the pocket of your guitar case (about the size of a small lunch box?). ).

There is a zippered compartment in the upper part of the case where you can store accessories such as the charging cable.
Since it is supposed to be carried around, this kind of consideration is very much appreciated!

Both the receiver and transmitter can be charged via USB Type-C and seem to be able to operate for up to 5 hours.

Here is the assembly.

The transmitter can be mounted on a mounting clamp and the microphone is secured by turning a gold lock screw after plugging in the stereo mini pin jack.
Since it is screwed in place with a locking screw, it is unlikely that the microphone will come off while playing.

Pairing is very easy!
Simply set the receiver and transmitter to the same channel to complete the connection.
The 2.4 GHz band provides six channels, so you can switch channels if you get mixed up with other wireless equipment.

When the power is turned on, both are set to channel 1 as shown below.

If you are concerned about interference with other equipment, simply set the transmitter and receiver to the desired channel as shown here (super easy, just press a button!).

Here is the guitar that I’m installing this time.

This is the AD28MC by PLAYTECH, which is well-known to Sound House readers!

The thickness varies depending on where you measure it, but it is about a little over 100mm.

The adjustment range of the mounting clamp is 74-105mm according to the published value, so it's pretty close to the limit.
Although this size is compatible with most acoustic guitars, please make sure to check the size of the guitar body so that you don’t regret buying it!

It’s better to set the mic closer to the neck so that the sound is picked up evenly for each string, but please forgive me for this picture.

How does it sound?

You can really hear the full quality of the acoustic guitar microphone recording that can’t be imitated with magnetic pickups.
There are products that have a microphone inside the sound hole, but I'm not sure if it is because the microphone is clamped to the body or because the sound is recorded from the top of the sound hole, but the bass sound is percussive and natural. It’s good that it also picks up sounds like hitting the body better than I expected!
However, it didn't pick up sounds that I wanted to avoid, such as clothes I was wearing rubbing against the back of the body or talkers' voices getting into the microphone, so that’s also good!

There are many excellent mics for acoustic guitars from various companies, but the portable performance, sound, and ease of setting up the mic made it a quality new option that I strongly recommend.

In addition, the microphone did not change position when I walked around with the guitar with the microphone attached.
If you swing the guitar as hard as you can, it will shift, so even though it is wireless, please do not spin the guitar around or perform any other crazy stunts!
I don't think anyone would go that far with an acoustic guitar. .....

Now, here's a final example of the kind of guitar to watch out for.

This is another well-known guitar, the AR28 Round back by PLAYTECH. The round back and pastel colors make it a cute guitar.

Yup, that’s right. There’s no way to just attach the mic to this guitar.
First of all, there’s the body thickness. It's too thin. And the round back gives it a three-dimensional shape.
I chose the AR28 as an exaggerated example, but I was talking about making sure to check the dimensions before mounting.

I briefly used a unique new product, the Xvive / U8 Acoustic Guitar Wireless System. You can check out the actual sound by looking up the product name, so if you are interested, please check it out!

I hope to introduce more interesting new products in the future as they become available.
See you again in the next article!
