Hello. This is sukuta takafumi (@sukutakafumi).

Today I would like to introduce the CULT TS808 1980 # 1 Cloning mod.
CULT was launched by Yuichiro Hosokawa, who has serial columns in guitar magazines, effector books, etc., and is also a collector of vintage effectors and a tech.
All of the products the brand handles, including the ignition mass products’ ART, which I introduced in the previous column, are made with a passion.
There is also an interview with the creator, which is quite interesting, so even if you don't buy the products, you can enjoy reading the review. (Because the brand is popular and the quantities are limited, you have to actually decide to buy it as soon as possible...)

By the way, what is the TS808 1980 # 1 Cloning mod?
1. At an event for an effector book, there was a vintage tube screamer (TS) with an excellent sound that everyone at the venue recognized.
2. In order to reproduce it, Susumu Tamura, the creator of the TS, analyzed the excellent tube screamer.
3. Based on the analysis results, Tamura himself adjusted the current TS by ear.
The result is the TS808 1980 # 1 Cloning mod.
Somehow, just because Tamura, the creator of TS, adjusted it, as a TS lover I decided to buy it right away, and I’m very satisfied with my decision.
First of all, please listen to the sound in the review video.
I also compared it with the vintage OD-808 equipped with a real Malaysian chip.
What do you think?
The features of the TS808 1980 # 1 Cloning mod are:
1. Good sound balance.
2. A smooth sound with a high-quality finish that is comfortable to play.
3. The range and compression that most guitarists like.
4. Heavier distortion than the normal TS.
5. Easy to handle.
It’s not wild like a vintage pedal, and I think it's rather modern and easy to handle.
The sound character is of course the same as the TS, but due to the Malaysian chip, the range is wider than the TS equipped with the normal JRC4558 chip.
Originally, it is a model that reproduces the vintage TS, so I am wondering how they are different.

Personally, I think the vintage OD-808 is mechanically superior to the vintage OD-808 with the Malaysian chip.
In fact, the vintage OD-808 is a masterpiece and it may be nonsense to compare it with the modern model.
So, I thought it was necessary to choose which one to use depending on what music ia was going to play, just as the saxophonist switches the instrument between a vintage and a recent model depending on the music.
Therefore, it is not true the vintage OD-808 is superior, or the CULT is superior.
It is necessary to choose the equipment according to the environment, music, and the venue.

The other day, 29 additional units were announced. By the time this article is published, I expect they will be sold out.
Please try them out.
* Made to order.
In addition, I am looking for manufacturers and individual builders who can offer me equipment for review videos and articles. Please feel free to contact me.
