Service Man Diary - PDS1000 Bass Drum Sound Won’t Come Out

Hello everyone, good evening.
This time, I received a PDS1000 bass drum with the issue that no sound comes out when this customer hits it.

The PDS1000 is the high-end class of the PLAYTECH PDS series and is acoustic in nature that looks exactly like a live drum. The PDS1000 is an acoustic drum that looks just like a live drum and each drum is independent of the other, so you can set it up as you like.

When I looked at the bass drum that I received, I found that the mesh head was torn and the urethane cushion inside seemed to be scuffed.

First, let's remove the head to find the cause of the lack of sound.

Wow...
This is very powdery.

The urethane cushion for the beater was quite torn up. And, the wiring for the sensor was also disconnected.
I thought the sound would come out if I corrected the wiring, but if this happens, the urethane cushions also need to be replaced.

Before replacing the parts, the dusty urethane cushions were removed with a vacuum cleaner.
The dusty inside looks like a small explosion....

Now it’s time to remove the parts.
The parts can be removed rather easily since they consist of the frame holding parts, the frame, and the sensor base.

Compared to the new parts, the deterioration is apparent.

Structurally, the large urethane cushion on top catches the beater, and the impact of the head is picked up by the sensor below.
The urethane cushion may be said to be the key part of the part, since the impact is not transmitted unless the urethane cushion and the head are firmly grounded.

At the end of the day, the unit we received this time had a malfunction that could not be corrected by wiring modification alone.

Because of this, we renewed the area around the sensor parts.
As for the urethane cushion, it is amazingly white.

After I installed the new head, it looks like a shiny new product.
The only thing left to do is to tighten the tuning bolts just like a normal bass drum.

Now that it’s assembled, check the operation.

I confirmed that the kick sound came out without any problem, and now the repair is complete!

(No matter how many times it's kicked or gets hit, we want it to keep making sound. ...... thumbs up)
