Rupert Neve Designs/Newton Channel is a powerful, modern new channel strip born from Neve's legendary lineage of sounds.

■Channel strip
[Input stage and mic preamp]
The Newton Channel has all the tone and musicality you want from a Rupert Neve Designs product. The preamp section lets you create tight, clean, and detailed sounds quickly and easily. Combined with the finely adjustable 6 dB trim knob, you get up to 72 dB of gain, perfect for any source.

The input stage is tuned to ideally match the impedance of standard microphone sources, but can handle line level as well. By using two Newton Channels, it can be said to be ideal as a high-end mixing tool. The input stage also includes a variable high-pass filter that can be adjusted over a wide frequency range (and can be turned on and off independently), allowing engineers to quickly remove unwanted noise and low-frequency rumble from the source.

[Equalizer section]
The EQ section has simple controls for quick adjustments. The low and high frequency shelf-type bands are controlled by 31-step potentiometers with up to 12 dB of boost/cut, allowing you to create subtle or extreme settings.

The parametric midband is also equipped with a 31-step potentiometer, allowing for a wide range of boost/cut from 220 Hz to 7 kHz. For this reason, the midrange is particularly flexible, making it easy to suppress muddy midrange and enhance the presence of the midrange. The carefully selected fixed Q maintains a healthy balance between musicality and precision, yet is wide enough to allow equalization, such as brush strokes, without negatively impacting surrounding frequencies. There is also a separate bypass button in the EQ section, allowing you to double-check the effect each time.

[Compressor section]
The compressor section features the latest version of Rupert Neve Designs' ultra-smooth VCA compressor. +20 dB of makeup gain and compression give you complete control over the essence of your sound.
There's also a ""pre/post EQ"" button that allows you to place the compressor section before or after the EQ section, as well as a separate section bypass button.

[Silk section]
At the end of the Newton Channel signal path is a unique and sought-after variable Silk circuit. Saturating custom output transformers from Rupert Neve Designs provide the power and control to amplify 2nd and 3rd harmonics for vintage tones.

A variable Texture control allows you to fine-tune the amount of harmonic content in the output stage. Silk RED mode emphasizes the high-frequency and mid-high harmonics of the source. In addition, in Silk BLUE mode, the low and mid-low harmonics of the source are emphasized. From delicate transformer tones that don't use Silk to colors that surpass vintage modules with full Silk circuitry and Texture controls, Newton's output stage can fill your tracks with power and shine.

[Custom-designed output transformer]
The output stage includes an output transformer custom designed by Rupert Neve Designs. Equipped with a balanced standard line-level main output, you can get a sufficient level of output signal. In addition to the main output, a separate -6dBu output is also provided to compensate for harmonic saturation caused by high-level inputs and Silk. This allows engineers to drive the Newton Channel to full capacity while still getting more transformer harmonics without clipping the next device in the chain. These outputs can also be used simultaneously

[Front panel]
[MIC PRE]
・MIC GAIN - Microphone gain
A 12-stage high-precision rotary switch allows you to set the input gain range in 6 dB steps. For line level input signals, set to “0 dB” position.
・48V - Phantom power
When pressed, it lights red and provides 48V power to the studio condenser microphone.
・φ (Phase) - Phase polarity
When pressed, it lights up orange and inverts the phase of the preamp signal by 180°.
・TRIM - trim
31-step potentiometer that allows fine adjustment of preamp gain over a ±6 dB range.
・HPF - High pass filter
When pressed, it lights up green and the high-pass filter is enabled.
・FREQ ? Frequency
Potentiometer that allows the cutoff frequency of the high-pass filter to be adjusted within the range of 20 Hz to 250 Hz.

[EQUALIZER]
・EQ IN - EQ switch
When pressed, it lights up green and the EQ section is enabled.
・LF - Low frequency setting
A 31-step potentiometer that controls the boost/cut amount of the low frequency (shelf) within a range of ±12 dB.
・60 / 150 - Low frequency setting
This button selects the low frequency shelf EQ frequency from two types: 60 Hz (OUT) and 150 Hz (IN).
・MID FREQ - Mid range frequency setting
A 31-step potentiometer that controls the midrange peaking EQ frequency from 220 Hz to 7 kHz.
・MID - Midrange
A 31-step potentiometer that controls the amount of midrange peaking EQ boost or cut over a ±12 dB range.
・8K/16K - High frequency setting
This button selects the high frequency shelf EQ frequency from two types: 8 kHz (OUT) and 16 kHz (IN).
・HF ? High frequency setting
A 31-step potentiometer that controls the boost/cut amount of the high frequency shelf EQ within a range of ±12 dB.

[COMPRESSOR]
・COMP IN - Compressor
When pressed, it lights up green and the compressor section is activated.
・THRESHOLD - Threshold
31-step potentiometer that controls the compressor threshold range from +20 dBu to -30 dBu. When the input signal exceeds the set threshold level, compression begins with a soft knee at a 2:1 ratio.
・RELEASE - Release time
31-step potentiometer that controls the release time of the compressor. It can be set in the range from 50mS (FAST) to 500mS (SLOW).
*Attack time is fixed at 20mS.
・GAIN - Gain
A 31-step potentiometer that controls the compressor's makeup gain from -6 dB to +20 dB.
・PRE EQ - Pre EQ
This button places the compressor section before the EQ section.

[SILK]
・SILK (RED/BLUE) - Silk
Illuminated button to switch between 3 Silk modes (OFF/RED/BLUE).
・TEXTURE - Texture
31 steps that control the amount of harmonics added within the transformer output stage when SILK is activated.

入力段とマイクプリアンプ

入力段は、標準的なマイクソースのインピーダンスに理想的にマッチするように調整されていますが、ラインレベルでも同様に駆動することができます。Newton には、包括的な周波数レンジの調整が行える、独立したバイパススイッチを備えた可変ハイパスフィルターも搭載されており、エンジニアはソースに含まれる不要なノイズや低域の唸りなどを手早く除去することができます。

イコライザー

Newton のEQセクションは、シンプルなコントロールにより、スピードと柔軟性に優れています。低域と高域のシェルフバンドは、最大 12 dB のゲイン・ブースト／カットが可能な、31段のポテンショメーターでコントロールでき、微妙な設定も極端な設定も思いのままです。
EQセクションのパラメトリックミッドバンドには、もう1つ、31段のポテンショメーターが搭載されており、220 Hz から 7 kHz までの幅広い帯域をブースト／カットできます。このため、中域はとくに柔軟性が高く、中低域の濁りを抑えたり、中域の存在感を高めることができます。慎重に設定された固定のQは、音楽性と精度の健全なバランスを維持しながら、周辺の周波数に悪影響を与えることなく、ブラシストロークのようなイコライジングを行うのに十分な幅を確保しています。

Newton Channel の各セクション同様、EQにも独立したバイパスボタンがあり、設定を都度ダブルチェックできます。

コンプレッサー

Newton Channel には、Rupert Neve Designs の超スムーズな VCA コンプレッサーの最新版が搭載されています。+20 dB のメイクアップゲインと厳選されたコントロールにより、コンプレッションを自在にコントロールしながら、サウンドの本質を維持します。

また、コンプレッサーをEQセクションの前後に配置するのに便利な「プリ／ポストEQ」ボタンと、独立したバイパスボタンも搭載されています。

Silk とは？

Newton Channel の信号経路の最後には、ユニークでニーズの高い可変 Silk 回路があります。Rupert Neve Designs のカスタム出力トランスを飽和させることで、2次と3次の倍音を増幅するパワーとコントロールを提供し、ビンテージなトーンを実現します。Silk を使用しない繊細なトランスのトーンから、Silk / Texture 回路を全面に押し出したビンテージモジュールを凌ぐ色彩感まで、Newton の出力段は強力なパワーと輝きでトラックを満たすことができます。

SILK RED を適用すると、ソースの高域と中高域から発生する倍音成分が強調されます。これによりトップエンドにキラキラとした輝きが加わるため、ボーカル、スネア、ストリングス、ピアノ、その他のアコースティック楽器などのソースに最適です。

SILK BLUE を使用すると、ソースの低域と中低域から発生する倍音が強調されます。これは信号をボトムアップで「強化」する傾向があり、ドラム、ベースギター、ヘヴィなエレクトリックギター、男性ボーカル、シンセサイザーに最適です。

カスタムトランス出力

Newton Channel は、バランス標準ラインレベルのカスタムトランス出力を備えます。さらに、独立した -6 dBu XLR 出力は、ハイレベルの入力と Silk による倍音の飽和を補正することができ、エンジニアは Newton Channel をフルドライブさせながら、チェーン内の次のデバイスをクリップさせることなく、より多くのトランス倍音を得ることができます。これらの出力は、同時に使用することも可能です。
