The Portico II Master Buss Processor is a mastering processor based on the high-voltage, discrete Class A circuit used in the analog consoles 5088 and Portico II Channel. It can be used for a wide range of genres and applications, from mixing EDM sounds with heavy bass to mastering delicate chamber orchestral music.
■Main Features Compression When the signal level is below the threshold value, the gain control does not function and the input level is output linearly as is. When the signal level reaches the threshold value and exceeds it, the gain is controlled (compressed) according to the ratio setting. Gain A compressor is a processor that reduces the level of an audio signal. Therefore, the output volume differs when it is turned on and when it is turned off. Gain (make-up) compensates for the gain reduced by the compressor. The Master Buss Processor's compressor module has a gain control range of 0 to +20 dB. It is generally set so that the volume is the same when the compressor is turned on and when it is turned off. Limiter A musical, clean and transparent brick wall limiter with a unique serial adaptive release that responds to the input signal and engages when the signal level reaches the limiter threshold. The attack time is 0.03ms, fast enough to process the first half of a 20kHz waveform. Bypass All Bypasses the entire Master Buss Processor hardware, including the input and output transformers. Texture A variable control that manipulates the harmonics without compromising the overall sound of the channel, creating an attractive sound. Silk Red and Silk Blue modes are also available to choose between vintage and modern character. This can be set per channel. FF / FB - VCA Mode Switch Switches the compressor's VCA mode. You can choose between a modern (FF) type compression effect that is highly accurate and operates quickly, and a vintage (FB) type compression effect that has a smoother, more musical response. RMS / Peak - RMS / Peak mode switching An additional VCA mode. Switches between the normal RMS mode that detects the average value and the ultra-fast mode that detects peaks and operates at less than 1 millisecond. SC HPF - Side chain high pass filter A side chain filter that cuts low frequencies below 125 Hz that adversely affect the operation of the VCA. Use this when modulation distortion occurs due to unnecessary low frequencies. Ratio - Ratio Sets the gain compression ratio of the compressor. The setting range is 1:1 to LIMIT (approximately 40:1). Threshold - Threshold Sets the signal level at which the compressor operates. The compressor operates when the signal level reaches or exceeds the set value. The setting range is -30 to +20 dBu. Attack Sets the start time of the compressor. Range is 20-80ms. Release Sets the duration of the compressor's gain control. Range is 100ms-3s. LINK When the LINK button is on, the compressors of the two channels are linked together. In this case, all knob control settings of channel A are applied as master controls. *When linking, the Silk mode must be the same, otherwise the Texture knobs will be linked in an unbalanced state. LED Meters Four peak LED meters show the stereo output and gain reduction. Side Chain Send / Return Send/return terminals (balanced TRS) to control the operation of the compressor. When using the compressor as a "ducking" processor, only the return terminal is used. * The send always functions and is connected to the return. When using the patchbay, the send and return must be patched or set to normal, otherwise the compressor will not function.
