The Nektar SE49 offers essential features for starting your computer-based music production journey. Compatible with a wide range of MIDI music software, it features a full-size, velocity-sensitive keyboard, essential controls like wheels, faders, and buttons, and Nektar's renowned DAW integration.

Play - Action
The keys are the most important part of any keyboard controller. The SE49's full-size, velocity-sensitive, synth-action keybed provides a solid, stable feel that's a joy to play. You can customize the keyboard's response with four different velocity curves (and three fixed curves) to suit your playing style and preferences.

Controls for Performance
The SE49 features wheels with a firm grip and just the right amount of stiffness. Whether you're looking to create a Herbie Hancock-style solo or add modulation for an EDM wobble bass vibe, you'll be comfortable.

For piano-style sustain effects, connect an optional footswitch or pedal to the SE49's rear-panel jack.

Simple yet Essential Buttons

Four buttons and one MIDI-assignable fader to the left of the keyboard make the SE49 highly flexible. The Octave buttons, with clear multicolor LED indicators, shift the entire keyboard up or down by -3 to +4 octaves. The Transpose buttons below also provide ±12 semitone transposition.

With DAW integration enabled, these buttons also provide easy MIDI channel switching, MIDI program change, track selection, and patch browsing. You can even change the Octave and Transpose buttons to send MMC transport signals, allowing you to control DAW play/stop, record, and more directly from the SE49.

Customize MIDI Assignments
Most MIDI-enabled software and hardware products have parameters assigned to MIDI CC messages. Of course, you can also use the SE49 to control filter cutoff, pan, effect bypass, or any other parameter that has a MIDI CC assigned.

Simply assign the faders, modulation wheel, or footswitches to control any MIDI CC message. Assignments are saved even when the unit is powered off.

Nektar DAW Integration

The SE49 works with virtually any MIDI software, but the custom ""Nektar DAW Integration"" feature gives you even more control. Assign tracks or patch changes to the transpose button, use the faders to control the volume of the currently selected track, and use the Octave and Transpose buttons for play/stop, record, rewind, and fast-forward. Why not take a break from the mouse?

The SE49's Nektar DAW integration supports Bitwig, Cubase, Garageband, Logic, Nuendo, Digital Performer, Mixcraft, Reason, Reaper, Sonar, and Studio One.

To use Nektar DAW integration, you must register your SE25 on the Nektar website and download and install the integration file from your user account.

Connection and Setup is Easy
The SE49 is a USB class-compliant keyboard, so no driver installation is required. Simply plug the SE49 into your computer's USB port and you're ready to go. You can also connect the SE49 to iOS devices with the optional Apple Camera Connection Kit. The rear panel also features a 1/4-inch footswitch input for sending sustain and other MIDI messages.

Includes Bitwig 8-Track, a DAW for immediate composition and performance!
The SE49 comes with Bitwig 8-Track. This 8-track version of the DAW lets you immediately start producing, performing, and sound design. Bitwig 8-Track includes over 50 software instruments and effects, allowing you to create music on up to eight audio or MIDI tracks. You can also use commercially available VST plug-ins. The included ""Bitwig Essentials Package"" provides easy-to-use loops, clips, and samples to support even those trying their hand at composition for the first time. Inheriting the functionality and appeal of its higher-end counterpart, Bitwig Studio, this music tool is both a high-level production tool and a powerful sketchpad for developing musical ideas.

From the late '80s to the early '90s, the synthesizer landscape began to change. Manufacturers developed large, matte-black synthesizers, eliminating knobs and controls as much as possible, featuring flashy LCD screens and neatly arranged buttons. These instruments graced records and stages. The distinctive sounds and technological advances of these digital instruments were strongly reflected in the music of the time, and this interplay ushered in the era of digital synths.

Unlike their analog predecessors, these digital synths were not easily editable. However, they were packed with cutting-edge features at the time, such as extensive polyphony, built-in sequencers and pattern memory, expansion memory slots, and digital effects.
