Collection of Classical Works Used in Home Appliances

2023-01-31

Theme:Classical Music

Home appliances are an indispensable part of our daily lives.
You may have no idea what I am talking about, but I would like to introduce some classical music used in home appliances that are played every day but that many of you probably don't even know that you listen to!
I am sure that each household uses a different brand, so I will start with brands that I actually use in my home. (*^-^*)

The first is "Bathtub Water Heater".

It's cold this time of year, and you can't help but want to take a bath to warm up. The air is cold and unpleasant until you get in, but the water warms your body and refreshes your mind, doesn't it? Now, let's get ready to take a bath! First of all, press the お湯はり (fill water) button. 20 minutes later...

♪~The bath is ready!

Do you remember what music was playing at this time? Please watch this video.

My house has a NORITZ gas water heater and I am sure many of you have heard it before. The song is from Doll's Dream and Awakening by Theodore Oesten and consists of A (Lullaby), B (Doll's Dream), and C (Doll's Dance), with the B (Doll's Dream) part playing when the hot water heating is completed. As the sound gradually rises, your feeling rises and you are enveloped in a sense of happiness, don't you think? It is sometimes played by elementary school children at piano recitals and competitions. It is so cute that you might think, "This song is about the bath!” If you are using the same water heater, please listen to this song from now on when your bath water is warm and ready! (^^)!

Continuing on, the second is "Washing Machine".

I use BEAT WASH from Hitachi, which may be a popular product as I have several friends and YouTubers who use the same washing machine!

I had only been listening to it as music to complete the wash, but in fact, I only recently noticed that the washer uses the first movement from the Mozart Piano Sonata No. 11 in A major, K.331. A simple explanation of a sonata is that it is a piece of music consisting of a first movement and a third or fourth movement. Among them, the third movement is, to my surprise, the "Turkish March," which I don’t think there is anyone who wouldn’t be familiar with this piece in some shape or form!

Even more interestingly, the first movement is a variation, and the first variation of the first movement uses the melody for the washing machine. The music actually played on the appliance is up-tempo and rhythmic, but the actual speed is slow and gentle, so you may get a completely different impression when you listen to it. Please take this opportunity to listen to it!

Finally, the third one is the "Electric Kettle” song.

During winter, do you ever want to drink something hot? An electric kettle is useful in such cases!
I use a ZOJIRUSHI CV-GA.

The music that plays when the water boils is this piece♪ If you used to learn the piano, I am sure many of you have played this before. The Minuet in G major was composed by J.S.Bach. It is one of the pieces in The Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach, which Bach had written for his second wife, Anna Magdalena, who was 16 years younger than him. Since it is said to have been written for the purpose of music education for children, it contains various pieces such as arias, polonaises, and other vocal pieces in addition to minuets.
A minuet is a dance with a gentle three-beat character, and a waltz is another example of a three-beat piece! However, since the minuet was intended for dancing at a ball held at the royal court, the tempo of the minuet is more reserved and elegant than a waltz. It would be interesting to compare it with the famous "Waltz of the puppy" composed by Chopin.

Now, I have introduced three pieces of music!
Music is played in many places every day, but I don't think we are particularly conscious of listening to it in our home appliances. I could only introduce three pieces this time, but there are many more. Please try to take a minute to listen to what kind of music is around you when you go home today!

Before I knew it, it was almost 20 years since I had lived my life with the piano. I've always played classical music, but recently I've been struggling with other genres such as jazz, but I'm trying to play it every day. I want to be able to copy and arrange by ear! I love listening to TWICE's songs. When I was a student, I went to a lot of LIVE shows, about once every three months.
