Hello. This is sukuta takafumi (@sukutakafumi).

Today, I would like to introduce the BOSS / BD-2 (Boss Blues Driver).

First of all, I made a video, so please watch it.
This is also an effector that is as useful as the boss SD-1 (Super Overdrive) that I introduced earlier.
The BD-2 is called a Blues Driver, so beginners may think that it is a blues-only effector, but that is not the case at all.
Even if you strum chords like pop music, it will be cool, and even if you play cutting rock, it’ll be pretty cool...
○ Features of the BOSS BD-2 (Blues driver)
・ The distortion texture has a short sustain and coarse grain.
・ Some people feel that the sound is hard
・ As the name suggests, this is definitely addicted to blues
The BD-2 (Blues Driver) personally sounds like the volume of an old Fender amplifier was raised and distorted.
If you turn up the volume of an old Fender amp, it will make a crisp sound, or it will make a jerky sound. It's close to that.
So the sustain is short and it sounds somewhat old. On the contrary, it may be suitable for backing, cutting and strumming chords.
Since the presence or treble comes out relatively well, you can do a clean boost depending on the settings, and it is also ideal for boosting the distortion of the amp.
On the contrary, this sense of presence gives the impression that the sound is hard, and I think that some people may find it difficult to use, but I do not particularly feel that.
Obviously, it goes well with the ROLAND / JC-120 (Jazz Chorus).
○ Differences from the BOSS SD-1 (Super Overdrive)
SD-1 (Super Overdrive) is a distortion that can be obtained by naturally increasing the volume of a tube amp that does not have many general features.
Compared to BD-2 (Blues Driver), the sound is much milder, and even if you play lead alone, it feels good.
To put it another way, it doesn't sound violent, so it's not as rocky as the BD-2 (Blues Driver), but rather produces a smart sound.
So I think the BD-2 (Blues Driver) is for strumming chords and violent rock, and SD-1 (Super Overdrive) for a little lighter music.
By the way, the SD-1 is rarely used as a clean booster.
This is because it does not have a presence like the BD-2 (Blues Driver), so it is difficult to create an amp-like sound by itself.
It is simply a good straight-forward overdrive.
This is also a good match for connecting to a ROLAND / JC-120 (Jazz Chorus).
○ Author's general comments
Since you choose the music you want to play, you need to decide whether an effector matches the music you actually play, but they definitely work in many situations. It may be a beginner's entry-level model, but even as an entry-level model, the SD-1 (Super Overdrive) is recommended.
This is because the SD-1 (Super Overdrive) has no particular individuality and can be used for a variety of styles. I think the BD-2 (Blues Driver) is an effector for those who need a unit with an edge, and it’s great if you get hooked.
Not only beginners but also intermediate and advanced users will find a use for the BD-2. There’s enough of a picking nuance, and the effects of using the volume control of the guitar itself can also be interesting.
I think people who are concerned about buying a variety of equipment should try this. It's often the case that the sound of a famous song or a song you like was actually created with BOSS.
▼ The following equipment is used in the review video.
Guitar:
Kanji Guitar Stratocaster (https://twitter.com/KanjiKawabata)
Effector:
BOSS / BD-2
Line6 / Helixlt
I selected a Fender amp on the Helix, and other spatial effects are set via computer.
Please try it by all means. Of course, you can also buy it at Sound House.

In addition, I, sukuta takafumi, am looking for manufacturers and individual builders who can loan me equipment for review videos and creating articles.
