Keyboard Stand Purchase Report

Hello, everyone!
Do any of you have these concerns?

  • I place my keyboard on the desk every time I use it for music production, but it’s about time I got a proper keyboard stand!
  • I want a keyboard stand that can also be used for live performances!
  • I need a keyboard stand that fits under my desk!

These were all concerns I had in the past!
To resolve them, I purchased the following item:

CLASSIC PRO / KST40 Keyboard Stand

This time, I’ll be sharing my report on purchasing this product!

There are various types of keyboard stands available, and if you’re feeling overwhelmed by the options, you’re not alone (I’ve been there too).

For example, if you’re taking it to live performances, an X-shaped stand might be a good choice.
The X-shaped stands are portable, easy to assemble, and look stylish!
They enhance your on-stage presence when you play standing up.
However, I was torn. Should I get a stand that works both at home and for live performances? Is this the right choice for dual purposes?

There are also Z-shaped stands:

Most of the Z-shaped stands are made for a single keyboard, but if you use two keyboards for playing and controlling, this might make it easier for you.

While there are many different shapes, the main deciding factor for me was the adjustable height in the lower range.

In the end, the stand I purchased turned out to be the perfect fit for my home.

And the reason for that is...
my house’s flooring.

I live in a second-hand apartment. The renovation work was done, but unfortunately, the contractor didn’t do a great job, so the floor is uneven. I’ve asked them to fix it, but when the flooring manufacturer came to inspect the construction error, they surprised me with this statement:

“There’s no such thing as a perfectly flat floor.”

I was shocked, but their explanation made sense.
Apparently, most floors are constructed based on level measurements, but even then, there’s always some margin of error.
Perfectly flat floors simply don’t exist. The manufacturer even asked people not to roll marbles to test for flatness, which surprised me, as it’s a common scene in home improvement shows. They said that almost any marble would roll on the floor.

Considering these circumstances, I believe keyboard stands with adjustable legs are suitable for homes that aren’t perfectly flat.

The stand I bought has slight adjustability, which is convenient.
Although the product page mentions 12 adjustable heights, as you can see in the photo below, there are grooves that allow for fine adjustments.

I’ve tightened the screws in a position slightly below the lowest recommended setting to fit it under my desk (not officially recommended by the manufacturer, though).

With this setup, the height is about 63 cm.
I make small adjustments depending on where I place it, but so far, I haven’t experienced any wobbling during performance or signs of malfunction.
Additionally, the stand came with two matte black stickers.

The indentations are from the keyboard

These stickers are intended as non-slip surfaces for where the keyboard rests, although there were no instructions. I contacted the manufacturer, and they confirmed that the stickers are meant to prevent the keyboard from sliding. They suggested using them if you’re placing a slippery keyboard on the stand. While my keyboard doesn’t usually slip during regular home use, I decided to apply the stickers for peace of mind, especially considering the frequent earthquakes in Japan.

I’ve placed it at the edge, and I’m about to stick it on

The stand’s width can be adjusted by loosening two screws and sliding it.

This part doesn’t have steps like the legs do

Thanks to this sliding system, I can comfortably place a full-sized keyboard on the stand without any worries.
(Even without adjusting the width, it performs well during regular playing as long as you’re not too aggressive with your playing style.)
It can also be folded up easily, making it useful for live performances.

I appreciate how easy it is to carry when folded!

For those who, like me, worry about the height of the keyboard stand making the desk too high, I think you’ll find this relatable.

The height of my dining table in the living room is 70 cm, which I’ve become accustomed to for desk work. Ideally, I wanted my desk to be about 70-72 cm high, with enough space underneath for keyboard playing or storage. Achieving this would be a dream come true!
I plan to add furniture sliders under the stand’s feet, but we’ll see how it goes...
Although I’m not sure if I’ll ever find the perfect desk, for now, I’m happy to have found the ideal keyboard stand.

I hope this report is helpful for those of you facing similar concerns!
